Where should I hit up? Going with the GF. Plans are to go to Oahu, the end of May. If you have a timeshare I would love to rent it. Looking at ~100/night.

What I have planned so far

Surfing on North Shore
ATV tour where they filmed Jurrasic park
Cliff Diving - North Shore?
Goto the Polynesian Cultural Center
Clubbing
Shopping - Ala Moana
Luau - Germaine's Luau
Snorkling - Hanauma Bay
Parasailing
Hiking - Diamond Head
Most likely hit the flea market too
North Shore - Matsumoto's Shaved ice

Let me know if I missed anything. This is going to be a killer trip for us and I want it to be fun. Id really like your guys' help. Give me some ideas any any other input!

sounds like fun, it's been a couple years since i was in oahu

for the luau, don't remember which, go to the one that serves alcohol maybe it was germaine's (sp?), but there is a dry one, which bites imo...

snorkling, best one i've been to is the heuneome bay (sp?) by far better than any crap you go on a boat.. even to molokai

hiking, i think it's called diamond head, man, my memory sux...

waikiki should have quite a bit of nite scene, clubs and such...

I grew up there so maybe I can give you some tips.

Go to Polynesian Cultural Center they have the whole luau and show thing, kinda exspensive but worth it if you go once in your life (OMG I miss girls that can do the hips thing in tahitian dance, you'll see) lol

Hanauma Bay is the snrokling place, it's great but you have to pay to go to the beach there, locals go for free. ( bring your own water and food)

Jurrasic park was flimed on kauai'i so unless your gonna go fly your out of luck

No black sand beaches on Oahu

All the other stuff on your list you shouldn't have a problem finding. Also if you have a freind or family there you can get a "kamaaina discount" which is a locals only discount at almost all the hotels for rooms under $70 a night but you need a Hawaii ID

Also if your gonna buy food or supplies go outside of Wakiki to get them. try Safeway or Foodland. it's alot cheaper than ABC stores

Once last thing remember that your on vacation and that thats not your home. People are really big on respect there, don't look at anybody wrong or you will get your ass kicked. this is more advice if your in a club. It's not like the mainland at all so don't go there assuming it is. Other than that people are generally nice and friendly you shouldn't have any problems

feel free to ask anymore questions

here's an example of tahitian dance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJNxxaw0ia0

Now just imagine a super hot girl doing that!!

95Blue240sx
03-19-2007, 09:45 PM
I know all about the tahitian dancers. A lot of my friends were dancers in high school. its so hot ahahah.

Thanks for clearing up some stuff. I thought I found the atv thing on oahu, maybe I was looking at it wrong. Any other cool places to go? I heard they dont sell alcohol at the polynesian cultural center so im going to plan to go to another one, i think.

well the only one i remember as being any good was paradise cove

http://www.paradisecovehawaii.com/

I gotta say growning up there i never really went to hotle luaus I usally went to family & friends with are really different.

I do reconmend that you go there and try to different food though. go to Ala Moana Mall and try the "Curry House" there it's the closest you'll come to the real Japan one. it's also different and way better than the "Curry Houses' here in Cali.

Another palce you have to try is "Ono's" on Kapahulu. go there and order the "Kalua pig and lau lau" 8it's one of the best you can find

http://hawaii.kulshan.com/Hawaii/Honolulu_County/Ohau_Island/Honolulu/Restaurants/Ono_Hawaiian_Food.htm

Also got to any korean fast food place like "yummy's" in Ala Moana and try the "meat Jun" It's Fucken Awsome!!

Zippy's is also always recomemed.
http://www.zippys.com/

Everythime I go back home I always bring some back with me and all my friends love it!! Also try all the seafood you can, it's cheap, fresh
I think it's because the water is so much cleaner there that all the food tastes so much better!!

Also try to just not do anything for a day if you can afford it. Hawaii is all about relaxing and the best way to do that is to just go to the beach and not do anything but enjoy yourself, I always hear of people trying to do too much while they are there and they forget to relax.

also if your going to North Shore try Matsumoto's shave ice in Haleiwa
http://www.matsumotoshaveice.com/

I sugest to try the Lihing Mui inside the ice cream shave ice. it's so good!!!

Great now I'm hungray and I miss Home!!

bj - when i went a couple of years back i did that sign up on a tour thing when i booked my week trip with my gf on like expedia or travelocity. I did the snorkleing and tour dealy which was tits. It was like for a day because a lot o that shit is accomplished in a day. No Really. Shopping around the international market will keep you busy the first 2 days then becomes something when your mad bored. Rent a car and go to this big mall near ala moana. Also hit up 88 tees t-shirt shop. Mad shit. As for nightlight can't tell you really where to go unless you know someone who knows where the hot spot is. Enjoy the beaches man.

Also the flea market is at Aloha Stadium which is every weekend and wensdays any hotel can get you info on this

Also for night life if your there on wensday go to Dave & Busters it's pretty koo; there they have a rooftop deck that turns into a dance floor and bar and it gets pretty packed
also not to sure how old you are but there is Oceans at One Waterfront( not just the addy but what the shopping area is called, and you have to be atleast 23 I think to get in except for thursday nights which is 21 and over) or the O lounge next to Ala Moana

All this info might have changed since it's been about a year since I went back home, just FYI

EvilRB

^^Well Speaking of pinapples, lol, Dole dose have a great museum along the way to the North Shore in Wahiawa. You can see all the different pineapples but the great thing there is the pinaplle ice cream

Oh damn, looks like when I get my back pains massaged out from traveling Cargo in Bj's suitcase, I am headed for some Pineapple Ice Cream. Sounds incrediable. haha.

Is there any Black Sand beaches on Oahu? I have never been to Hawaii, but I can say that would be among the Top things to do on my list.

EvilRB

a portion of the 1st jurassic park is shot on oahu, and the atv is at the same spot... and i think some lame horseback riding, (don't do it, it's lame)
dole plantation has a maze, that's too time consuming unless you like that kind of stuff...
i remember zippy's,
they have l&l there too
yeah, it's all about relaxing, i wish i was there...

How long are you going for? If you can swing it, split your vacation on maui also. I love that island. Some good surfing but not as good as the northshore. You are going to have a blast!

Get this book!
http://www.wizardpub.com/oahu/oahu.html

If you go to maui get this book also!!

Just watch out for the sharks when surfing! :D

Thanks for all the info guys, especially EvilRB!

Well sounds like I have a pretty good idea of what to do. I do have 2 friends that go to school on the island so im sure they know the nightlife. I dont think i will be island hoping because id have to get 2 separate hotels and then book another flight. This time around ill just stay on 1 island.

I will be there May 25-31, my GF's bday is on the 30th and I want to do something "special/romantic" its on a wednesday. What do you suggest? I dont mind taking her to a nice resturant for dinner and then a walk on the beach or something. TYPICAL, i know! Im not that great at planning something special ahhaha. Maybe on this day we could go hiking, she loves to hike, then snorkling and then shopping at the ala moana mall. Any suggestions for a nice dinner spot?

Thanks again for the help!

EDIT: Maybe we can go to the luau that night? If you were a chick how would that sound?? ahahaha

EvilRB
03-20-2007, 09:36 AM
Thats one of the great things about Hawaii, to do something romantic is cheap if you just end up taking a walk on the beach. Waikiki is acually pretty good for this. There are 2 places that come to mind for a great romantic dinner. there is Sarento's at the Ilikai hotel. They have a great 360 veiw of the water and city and it's really nice and upscale. I use to go there alot with dates. heres a link:

http://www.tristarrestaurants.com/sarentosoahu/index.html

the other is AArons at the Ala Moana Hotel. Same kinda thing with a 360 view of the water and city. Both great places and around the same price. it's the kind of place where people purpose at. here's a link to Aarons:

http://www.tristarrestaurants.com/aarons/index.html

They are owned by the same company but I personally like Serentos better because it's a little more intimate. there are other places but i think you'll be happy with these cause they are next to waikiki and you can head down to the beach after for a moonlight walk. And no need to thank me for any of the info, I'm happy to do it. it's kinda fun remembering all the these little things. I haven't thought about it in a while. Ahhh the good ol' days.

before I forget there is also John Dominis. It's a high class restaurant off the beaten path. It's right next door to the Fish Auction so the seafood is always fresh. Also they have a water way that winds through the entire restaurant filled with all types of lobsters and fish. pretty kool place again not cheap but i think worth it once in your life. get a taxi to get there don't drive yourself cause you might get lost easily.

http://www.johndominis.com/index.htm

Also if your down for deep sea fishing try my dad's boat out. there are rated the best charter boat in hawaii. It's really worth it my uncle is the captin tell him Jeremy, Herman's son sent you and I'm sure he'll take care of you.

03-20-2007, 12:11 PM
Awsome!! Damn John Dominis looks great, but the menu is $$$ than the other two. I think I will go with Sarento's.

I gotta ask her about the fishing, Id go for myself though. Im not sure if she would want to spend a day on a boat.

Tons of great information thanks! I decided to pickup a book to go through just in case i see anything else of interest.

Off the top of your head, any other place besides Diamond Head for hiking? Maybe a place where we can rent some mountain bikes and ride a few trails? Maybe near some water

Waimea falls park it's great and i think you'll find everything your looking for there. Also it's right next to Waimea Bay one of the best beaches on the north shore. It's even got a giant rock to jump off of! You can also rent the kayaks from the falls travel all the way down to the beach then if the river is blocked off move the kayaks to the bay and do some ocean kayaking. here is a link:

http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/waimea_valley_adventure_park.html

When you go there sholdn't be any giant waves, thats in the winter, so look forward to just gental swells and really clear water. I suggest buying an underwater disposable camera for some really kool shots.

surfing on the North Shore.

i hope you're pretty good cuz that is where the swells hit the hardest and the break is pretty rough.

be careful man. or choose another place. maybe a mile south by the sandbar.

Only a couple days left. I went over with my gf about what we are going to do. Ended up cutting a lot of stuff out because it would be so hectic. If you read my earlier post its her bday on the 30th, so I wanted to do something nice, as if the whole trip wasnt enough. Another friend recommended me to go to Waikiki Tower. I guess its a resturant that spins so you see the whole island.

EvilRB
05-21-2007, 11:00 AM
Ummm Waikiki Tower is a hotel on Lewers street that isn't that nice. it's a basic hole in the wall hotel. I wouldn't take her there if you wanted to be nice to her. if you wanted to piss her off and not get any then by all means take her. lol

Trust me you'll like Sarento's better and i think thats the restaurant that your friend was talking about anyway. It dose that 360' degree view thing.
Also check the weather before you go just in case. It dose rain alot there don't just expect it to be sunny but it should be. if you need any other help or ideas just PM me.

^^^ Sweet. We actually had planned to see Pearl Harbor, but with all that we were doing we decided to cut it out and add it back if we had time. Im into that sorta thing. I went there when I was younger, so I dont think at that time I appreciated it. Im still trying to work it back in though.

Whats Valley of Temple??

We are planning to walk from our hotel to Diamond head and back. Should be a good couple hours. Im into the whole walking/hiking/biking thing and I hope its fun.

Brings back memories. I lived in back of the temple in a place called Haiku Plantations. you see that mountain in the back, that was my playground when i was little. My friends and I would play commando with air soft guns that my sept-mom brought back from Korea. It was Awesome!!! it's nice but not much too see. there is just the temple and a graveyard. All I remember is you can feed the koi there and you can walk the grounds. If your short on time i would skip it. Plus it's in Kaneohe and it's a little out of the way unless your going to take the long way to North shore then you could stop by. If you do though I would suggest Pali lookout. it's pretty kool. it's the place where King Kamehameha won a battle by pushing the rival army over the cliff to their deaths.

If your up for it you should try Ghost hunting. due to the beliefs and history Hawaii is a great place for ghost hunting. We used to do it all the time when I was living there and there are some stories that I could tell you. Needless to say that I really know that there are ghost out there. Try it out you might not be able to sleep after but at least you won't ever forget the experience.

Skydive hawaii!!!!
http://www.hawaiiskydiving.com/
Expect to spend about 300.00 per person (including trasportation and tip) Its a once in a lifetime experience (or twice for me :x:) and the people there are so chill and laid back. heh, but arnt all hawaiins lol. Also the DVD will set you back like 75.00.

Ala moana mall is pretty cool for shopping. Its like 4 stories in some places and Im sure your girl would like that. Its walking distance or you can just catch a taxi. Theres taxi everywhere.

Theres also 2 strip clubs I know of in that area if your into that sorta thing lol.

But yeah screw Oahu, real ballers take their girls to Kauaii! Thats where all the real fun is at! As long as you dont get your ass kicked by native radicalist hahaha.

One more thing.. Buy your girl a pair of maui gems. She'll never see the ocean the same again.

Have fun, and good luck.

Regarding ghosts, my bro and his friends went to one of the dorms that were closed down because of suicides in that specific dorm. Well they went and recorded the whole thing. My bro was in the front seat with the camera and they drove up, and there was a light on in one of the rooms. The camera moves down and then back up and you can CLEARLY see a silhouette of a girl with long hair in the window. When my brother saw it he was like "OH SHIT" and the camera moved down again and back up. Shes was gone...They went and checked the doors and they were chained shut. :eek3:

It was one of the scariest things Ive seen! I have it on video and Im hesitant to watch it. Its actually at my bros house, but I'll see if I can get it.
