OT, but.. It does suck! I was working on rear alignment last night too. Where are you measuring from and to for rear toe? It's pretty difficult to get a tape measure across the front or rear of the back tires as there is a lot of shit in the way (exhaust, sway bars, diff/driveshaft, etc).. There is a spot about 1/2 way up the back of the tire that will clear the exhaust, just above the toe link on the spindle. But the spot in the front of the tire is about 4-6" lower and the geometry doesn't seem right comparing those two measurements. Send me a PM if you'd like to discuss alignment.

I just paid for a ballin alignment last Thursday from this guy I refer to as "The BMW Snob".. But I fucked up my rear right on Friday; replaced the arms on sunday, now the front is fine, the rear left is fine, but the rear right needs adjustment. Just wondering where/how you guys are measuring for rear toe with all the components in the way? My DIY alignment on the front was damn close; caster was off by .2/.3, camber was off by a degree l-r and toe-in was even left-right, just a little too much toe-in total. The front seemed a lot easier to measure.. Besides the snob's shop is all the way the other side of town, they take a long time to get the work done and the dude has an attitude... :hahano:
See you guys on Sunday

mello,
I'm not sure how you're measuring toe. It sounds like you're measuring from tire to tire but I do it with string. Try this.
http://www.negative-camber.org/jam149/technical/alignment.html
it's a crude way to measure toe but it's pretty simple. but so far my measurements in the back are 0 toe with .83 camber in the right rear and .94 camber in the left rear.
10 bucks for spectators! holy crap. Do i pay 10 bucks too? What about mounting tires? HOw much does WSIR charge?
I'm coming up from ventura county.

Yeah I've been researching all different ways to do it recently. The tire method seems to be the "easiest" although I understand the tread isn't exactly accurate. I've read of the string method, one guy suggested running the same wheels on all four corners with center caps, measuring out 100mm from the front caps and 102.5mm from the rear cap (probably the link you just gave). I'll give that method another shot; but I don't have center caps, plus I have mismatched wheels on there now so it's not really accurate. I have the Fastrax camber/caster/toe tool, but it's a bitch to find level ground! I know about making some shims for my garage but there is so much junk in there it's not an option right now...
Thanks for the link though.
And yes, as a driver or spectator you have to pay $10 for every person in your car to get into the track regardless of their role. No place to mount tires at WSIR, but I hear there is a nearby shop in Rosamond that is open on Saturday.

what sux about WSIR is that even though you pay for the track day you still have to pay $10 to get in no metter if you're a driver or not ....

03-21-2007, 12:12 AM
^^ that does suck.
Oh well. I guess i'll lose some track time for a tire change run. Maybe i'll get some lunch or something too. I doubt i'll make too much progress on my first track day anyway.

damn i wish i had money to go to balcony.
i've been itchin for a beginners drift event ever since i went out and messed around on the street... found out what i was doin wrong at the events that kept making me spin out and stuff..
for all you guys that are scared... there is nothing to crash into at the balcony or oval... i spun out ALL day on both tracks and most damage to my car was my lip being ripped of....
now horse thief mile.. thats a different story... but as long as you take it easy ... you should be fine.. unlike me ;-/

streets is where i learned how to drift ... track was only to find out the limits of my car so i know how far to push it on the streets ... it's better to spin at the track then at the street lol

I have no pictures, but here are a couple of videos. I meant to film everyone in the afternoon, but my camera ran out of batteries before noon. Next time!
Luke, you totally missed out. There was SOOOO much track time, it was ridiculous. So ridiculous, in fact, that everyone ran out of tires/energy and packed up early at 4:30pm.
Here's Robbie in his mean sounding s14:
