Blew my sr20 at the drift event in pdx...

I had 4 hours to spend on it today and heres what I got so far...

10 more minutes the block would have been out the motor mounts are disconnected and all the tranny 2 engine bolts are out.


I'm thinking piston skirt broken rings broken

I did compression and leakdown test...

1, 2, 4, had 150 each, 3 had 125... leakdown showed leaking past rings/piston...

No cracks on the top of the piston, once the block is out I will open the pan up and see whats up...

Head is going to be sent off next week to check for any problems clean it up and put aftermarket springs/retainers in.

Going to do Eagle H beam rods, Wiseco pistons (will be 2.1L after this)

Zip lock baggies are your friend when disassembling motors :-D

That sux, I have been through 1 blacktop and 2 redtops. My blacktop rod shot out of the side of the engine.

It does suck especially since I havent even had the swap for 2 months...

But you got to pay to play, hopefully I will get all the parts and everything done soon so I can go to the next drift event.... Doubt that will all happen in 2 weeks but I can always pray :-P lol

If you do it yourself, that is realistic if your ambitious. Through a machine shop, it will take a month atleast. Keep in consideration you have to custom order some parts.

I commend you on taking your engine apart while its still in the car. Thats not easy. Good luck on the rebuild.

I highly doubt it will be done in just a few weeks but our shop deals with a few decent machine shops and will hopefully not be more than a weeks turn around after I get all the parts in and ready.

Well new pictures will be up tommorow maybe, but I found out exactly what happened


I tore apart the block to find a spun rod bearing on Cyl # 3

Hopefully I can clean up the block enough and get it sent out this week to see if the crank is o.k. and the block is indeed re-buildable. Should be, but we will see.

what where the conditions when it blew, boost level, rpm, stock turbo?, sorry if i am being to nosy. i just had one spin a bearing on me >_<

It clearly has a stock turbo. Most likely it was boosted since it had a FMIC and boost controller. RPM must of been over 5500 since he was drifting. Pretty good guess.

yes stock turbo, running 1 bar boost (drops off to .6 bar after 6k rpm (actuator problem, lol had one coming came day after it blew, lol)

When it happened was in the last part of the last turn I think probably around 5-7k rpm but not quite sure.

I never took the motor past 6.5k on the street (the boost dropped off so bad so it was pointless)

was at the end of a maybe 30-45 second run at a drift competition (my 6th run of the day 2nd 3 were 2-3 hours apart from the 1st. maybe 10 minutes between runs
