Save yourself some money and buy Garrett turbos, plus Garrett make turbos for HKS, Tomei, and Nissan uses Garrett turbos. Can't go wrong with a company that invented the turbo, right?

If you can get it for a decent price sure, but as said above straight garret non-namebrand (hks for example) is going to be cheaper.
I can get Hks for a similar price to what people pay for the straight garrets, I'm not advertising/bragging I'm just saying. They are the same turbines for more money, since I don't have to pay that price I'd choose the HKS one. So if you want he HKS one and its a decent price TO YOU (its your wallet) go for it.

LOL HKS is not even the same as the new Garrett GT stuff. HKS FTL.

If you want a crappy turbo for waaaaay too much money, why not just go turbonetics?

LOL

I know what they do, my father works in the same industry ;) They didn't invent turbos though.

whoa whao, sorry guys. That's why i put a ? at the end of my sentence. That's what I read somewhere a long time ago, that it was invented by a guy name Cliff Garrett. But I just checked their website and it said that he started the company (Garrett) in 1936. Now whether or not he invented it or not, not really sure.
If someone knows, then let me know. Thanks.

The turbocharger was invented by Swiss engineer Alfred Buchi, who had been working on steam turbines. His patent for the internal combustion turbocharger was applied for in 1905. Diesel ships and locomotives with turbochargers began appearing in the 1920s.

go and get yourself a garrett gt2871r, same exact turbo as the hks gt-rs, but for hundreds less. check out the GB section. hybrid-performance is having a gb now.

he's asking for turbo experience/feedback from the beginning. the people whe went off track, are the ones who started to discus the history of the turbo.:keke:

No, Most of HKS's line up uses horrid wheel/housings combos. They are pretty outdated by the standards of garretts new line.

Garrett makes the turbo for HKS. How is it cheaper? Garrett has to make a profit from HKS which means the turbo is going to be more expensive. Thats why the Gt2871r turbo from garrett cost $1100 and the GT-RS is atleast $2000. If you have a hook up for a NEW HKS TURBO, then share the hook up to the guy who made this thread.

^^ you said gt2871r twice in that sentense

correct me if i am wrong but... isnt the 2835 the sibling of the 2871?

Ameer

I meant the GT-RS, gt2835 is the sibling of the gt3071r

YES and if you read my post it said "GARRET NON NAMEBRAND WILL BE CHEAPER". Me getting this guy the price i can get will not help the fact that people are going to continue to say buy garret not HKS. Now i realize this is a PRICE driven statement. I realize that HKS has to make money and they get they're profit from adding a percentage on to what they pay Garrett. This is why i ALSO said above "IF ITS A DECENT PRICE TO YOU (the guy who started this post) BUY IT. Every time someone comes on this forum and asks about a turbo they get "Don't waste your money... buy a garret." Thats fine, but no one ever says if they've had any experiance to warrant not buying one (other than the fact that they cost more). So answers to the post should have been what johngriff stated. I have never heard anything bad about them as a matter of fact other than what johngriff stated and since im no turbo expert then i'd have to take his word for that. They make the power they say they can make and havent had any reliability issues (on peoples cars who i know).
