Have a set of 120 dollar alluminum, locking lug nuts..... How strong/safe are they to use for HEAVY GRIP(wide tires, track use) and some drifting?
Was also thinking of just selling these and getting gorillas... any suggestions on a type/place to buy them for cheap.(under 40)

i personally wont use anything besides steel lugnuts
many race tracks require your lugs to be torqued to 100 pounds, which you cant really do with aluminum lugnuts
besides that, the weight savings is totally minimal

they are rays... Light as hell which really doesn't matter with my heavy ass rims.... Just had them and thought i'd put them to use...
and i don't see why you can't torque them to 100... I'm assuming they were designed to be torqued to factory specs(around 90) so i'm assuming 10ftlbs isn't going to destroy them....
As a matter a fact...if they CANT be torqued to 100, i won't even consider it..

yes. one of the old school porches uses aluminum lugs from the factory. they are very light. and are very easy to cross thread and over tighten which leads to strippage. goto your local discount tire and purchase a set of gorilla's

Yea my friends 86 944 has aluminum lug nut and we almost strip them out many times. There too much of a hassle having to always worry if you’re going to strip them out.

WOW. Thanks guys... WHY THE FUCK would anyone pay 120 bucks for lugs you can't use at the track, or torque to factory specs is beyond me...I'm just glad i got them for free...
Gorilla's it is...THANKS!
BTW- anyone know if gorilla uses one key or if they make/sell multiple keys...(cause one universal gorilla key would make theivery too easy imo)

they will take off pretty much any lugnut in like 5 seconds

these are the only ones i have seen that would be hard to remove without the correct key, since you would have to bust off the sleeve thing first to use tools on it, but i would be kindof scared of breaking the lug key since it is so thin.

lol at alluminum melting on studs...
Thanks for the replies chmercer... I agree, MOST lugs are REAL easy to remove... I actually have those "easy out" sockets you showed and i removed ALL the "locking" lug nuts on a car i bought without the key...
Some locking ones i've seen make it a little harder and require a socket be "pounded" on, taking a good 1/2 hour to remove them all. The only ones i've seen yet to be effective agains ANY normal 12 or 6pt socket are these damn alluminum ones!!!lol. The locking ones actually LOOK normal but upon further inspection have 7 sides....
And BTW chmercer- any suggestion on WHICH of those styles to get? I'm assuming "accorn" for peformance wheels...but i've never heard of the "dublex accorn".. is that just a longer lug nut?
Also, do you have any opinion/experience with the "hex" style which use an key inside? I had a cheap ebay set...besides the key wearing out, they seemed fine... opinions on those vs the other gorrila types?
EDIT- FUCK. Just realized the "duplex accorn" dont come in 1.25... I don't think the short ones will work with extended studs..... Thats sucks cause that design is badass.

chmercer is right. we take off wheel locks at work all the time for customers taht lose/can't find there wheel lock key. some cars take 5 seconds. some cars take 5 minutes but we eventually get them off.
