View Full Version : How comfortable are you with suspension upgrade?
I've been considering a susspension upgrade for a while now. I share my 240 with my brother and i want to know if ride harshness will significantly increase. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> I would do anything for handling but I have to take into consideration my brothers comfort.
This is the setup i'm considering KYB AGX + H&R springs
please post your setups and coments <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

hmm well if he doesnt like the upgrade then maybe he will get his own car then you can do whatever you want to the 240.

With that setup I dont even think Grandma would complain about ride quality to be honest. H&R uses progressive springs so they stiffen as more pressure is applied to the spring therefore giving a softer ride. I dont know what the spring rates are for those spring but they couldnt be stiffer then my 5Zigen R-Rates I had on my 91 Hatch along with AGX's. You will also need to consider the effects of camber and tire wear since your lowering your car. You can fix your camber the right way for about $200-$400 F&R or the cheap way for about $100 F&R at most.
You will need to make sure your bro is considerate of the car since it will be lowered so he cant just fly over speeds bumps and dips.
Also, a good way to really beef the suspension would be to get some sway bars. Whiteline makes the best around IMHO, you can get them from Don @ PDM-Racing.com for about $250ish for both bars. DSC (Dave) has a install on these bars in the installs page on the main site if you want to check them out.

i have AGXs and pro-kits and i think its great as a daily driver. my friend swears it rides just like his intrigue when i have the front shocks on 2 and rear on 4. this is due to the progressive design of the springs. when i soften it from there the ride gets even "cushier" but result is more body roll and a more stock-type ride. i prefer how it feels on 3/5. i'd say get AGX's and play around with the settings till u find something u both like... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Yeah, you should be fine with that setup. It's adjustable too, so if you find it harsh, make it softer <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I've got Tokico linear rate springs with Tokico blue shocks. . . Good feel of the road, but definitely stiffer than stock. Good stuff man, good stuff.
Long story short the car is his Birthday present <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> he still dosen't know that i bought it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'>
What camber kit would you recommend?

i`ve just fitted Some Apex springs with a 35mm drop and am pleased with it. Lower than i expected and the ride is comfortable. Although i think i`d like it harder.http://www.mcmahon32.freeserve.co.uk/low2.jpg

i got the pro kit on mine along with KYB GR-2s. it rides nice, but i think i would like it a little stiffer, i want to ride in someone else's 240 to compare. i got a good deal on the struts thats why i got them. but i am very pleased. love it over stock, and stock was not bad at all.

95Blue, we've got the same suspension setup. I've never ridden in another 240, so I can't say really, but the ride is nice. Ground feel is good too. I'd personally prefer something stiffer, but GR2s and ProKits feel quite nice. I'm holding out for the AGXs for the S14 -crosses fingers-

yeah when i put them on i was expecting something like my friends hatchback civic. feeling every bump. but i drove his car then mine. big difference. i love my car and its handling. the gr2s arent bad, but maybe something like koni blues or agx would be sweet.

Dampers make a big difference. When my car was first lowered (whiteline works kit) I was sent the wrong front struts and for 2 weeks the car over steered like mad and was way out of balance over bumps. Then I installed the front konis and set them to 2/4 while the rears were still 3/4 (not sure why i set them there in the first place, but it's a PIA to change them now) and the car was still unbalanced. The rear felt much firmer even though the konis are only rebound adjustable, meaning the bump was still the same f/r. Setting the fronts to match the back actually made the ride seem less firm as it was balanced all around. Sometime soon I want to go to 2/4 firm all around like on uiuc240 (eric's) car. Its more tolerable and feels nice as a street car, still firmer, but very tolerable.
