View Full Version : stop light fuse keeps going on me
I just finished checking all the bulbs and one in the 3rd stop light is gone. I don't think this would of caused the fuse to go, but I am going to try replacing it and finding out. If I put a new fuse in it just pops as soon as I press the brake. So.... any ideas?
Also, the 2 bulbs for the 3rd stop lamp (the center one) is not labeled on the wiring diagram...?
Looking at the wiring diagram I see there is a stop lamp switch (must be the brake peddle right?). Anyone know where that is located in the car or how can I check if it is functioning correctly.
Thanks,

Check the wiring close the 3rd light, and make sure you don't have any unsuspecting grounding (ie: copper showing on the wire) etc.
The wiring is all good everywhere near the lights. All the lightbulbs all work now, except that I still keep blowing the fuse.
I hooked the voltimeter up to the fuse slot and registered 12.59V coming in from the battery.
I checked the resistance and got 13.39 so... i tried another 15amp fuse.. and it went again. So now I am back to checking grounds everywhere, but I don't know how this could of happened.
I was working on my stereo wires yesterday.. but even when I unhook my stereo completely and make sure no wires are shorting then try it again my tail light fuse still goes.
Sigh... I hate electrical problems.

So 10 years later I have the same exact problem, and you are the only other person that experienced the same exact symptoms where the fuse blows immediately vs fuse blowing when you press the brakes. And you did not come back and report what was the issue. It should be mandatory who ever has a problem whenever he finds the solution he comes back and post what was the freaking issue. I have this problem right here, and I disconnected the brake light switch and all harnesses and problem still persists. I still register exactly 12.6 volts in that fuse slot even with the car off.
