View Full Version : Do me a favor - Go look @ Your s14 Sunroof

Can someone do me a quick favor and go take a look at their sunroof on an s14? (probably the same on s13's too). It'll take 2 minutes. And yes I've searched.
Is there a clip or plug or something in the center of the weather stripping on the rear part of the glass? Mine is missing and I swear i can picture a little clip or something that's supposed to be there. Since mine is gone i can look through the hole strait into the intereior - I know somthing is missing here. This must be where the leak i have is coming from - the slider under the glass is getting all wet.
I'd do this myself but there are no 240's near me that i can look at... (except my own). And every picture i see doesn't exactly focus on the sunroof...
Thanks.

^^^ So your's has an opening too? I swear i thought there was supposed to be a clip there.. It just doesn't make sense to me - why would nissan want water to come inside the cabin and get the freakin' slider all wet?!?!
This all started with an inch of water on my rear passenger floor board.. After pulling out all the seats & panels then pulled up the carpeting to find the leak. Turns out the passenger side sunroof drain tube was plugged with crap so I just blew it out. It hasn't rained since so i'm not sure if that worked but then i noticed there was the hole that went right into the cabin... didn't make sense to me. I'm thinking about the old bubble gum fix... J/k.

They all have an opening. As time goes on the rubber pulls in a little and opens the gap, but the rear drain is right below it. Unless it's seeing a significantly high amount of water all at once it will not leak over the drain channel. Now if you drain is out of alignment, you will get water intrusion. Remove the glass and realign the drain.

Ok thanks. So does this tube somehow catch the water coming down from the quarter-sized hole in the weather stripping?

It's a long trough that sits directly below the rear edge of the glass, running from side to side.

Not exactly. The drain tube is located at each corner of the sunroof, not just one, but this isn't the part he is asking about.

DRO: Not sure if this will fix your prob but I ended up figuring out why mine was leaking into the cabin.. There was a dried up bee and some leaves plugging the drain tube these guys are referencing. I did not remove the glass to fix. To fix, I took off the plastic interior on the right side (have to remove the rear seats, and unbolt the seat belt i believe, it's been a while), it's pretty self explanatory but make sure you don't break the plastic clips that the interior mounts to. Once removed you should see a white or clear tube coming down the A-pillar (think that's what it's called). I simply blew through it but i'd imagine compressed air would have been better. The leaves and dead bee flew right out and i vacuumed them up (they were kinda in the roof area where the glass retracts, i had the sunroof in "vent mode"). There are probably drain tubes on both sides but i knew for mine it was the passenger side that was causing the problem. I also cut a piece of rubber and filled in that gap just for the hell of it.
Added info: The area that the tube drains to also has a small drain that allows water to drain out of the vehicle. This was clogged on my car as well and i had about a half gallon of water sloshing in between the body metal and interior metal (behind the plastic interior pieces). I unclogged the drain by poking a nail or something through it from the outside (you'll see a drain hole about 6-8" from the rear fender, almost right below where the door closes, see FSM if you have one). The water came right out. The FSM will also tell you where all those clips are so you don't break them by accident. I also noticed when doing this that my sunroof "slumps" a little bit i guess just from being old. I close it all the way and then it slumps down a little bit on the rear side – which was causing a lot of water to gather and then go down into that drain opening. The poor mans way to fix this is to close the sunroof then just slightly tap the “open vent mode” button to compensate for however much the glass “slumps”. I know this is ghetto LOL but it works for me so whatever. I just get it to the right spot and then keep it closed all winter :)

Thanks man, good info. I'm sure my drain tube is clogged too, but I also noticed that my sliding sunroof cover was wet too so that's why I assumed that water was coming through the little quarter sized hole in the middle...
I wish I didn't have a sunroof.
And wtf is the purpose of that quarter sized hole in the weather stripping?!!?

I hear ya, if i didn't have any thing else to worry about i'd pick up one of those carbon fiber sunroof cover things. Just saw an add here on Zilvia for one yesterday: http://zilvia.net/f/interior-exterior/285556-kognition-carbon-sunroof-delete-200-shipped.html
