Im probably gonna get flamed but my s13 coupe is an auto. I have a welded diff in my car and have had no problems with my tranny. Its been welded since november, still going strong.

I want you to think about that one for a minute. Think about how each works.

Get a manual tranny swap.
Easier said than done. Expecially here on the East Coast

I don't get it.

There should be no problem with an auto trans and a welded diff.

School much?

Having an auto car that kicks when it shifts sucks balls after a while.

I think my tq converter is going out is still unplugged. gotta wrench it soon.

if your so worried about running a welded diff on a auto trans just flush the fluid more often. there is nothing wrong with a welded diff and an auto. My friend had a welded diff in his auto cresssida and it made it alot more easyer to drift.

No its not mine. Its a buddy of mines, that was a Team Hinga car. And it brings back some depressing memories for me and Hinga members.

so im assuming your going to drift the auto s13/s14 with welded diff?

I don't believe you will have any mechanical problems if that what your asking. for drift and autocross, go for it. however if this is your daily driver I would advise against it. If not driven correctly, welded diffs can be dangerous. Having a manual tranny allows much more control over understeer/oversteer. I would think with an automatic you may get yourself into a slippery situation.

no this is just a daily driven car, barely ever drift with it so the only thing i should wory about is pretty much wearing out my tires?

if you're just going to DD, what's the use of a welded diff? if you want to be cool, you should just shift through each gear so people think you have a manual. :ugh:

no actually the problem is the idiot that owned the car before me broke a bolt where the pumpkin goes on so theres no way i can change it back unless i buy a new sub brace or something i was actually planning to sell the car but having second thoughts, thats why i ask to see if u guys know its gonna end up breaking anything in the car... if not then i keep driving it untill i can afford a 5spd swap

irax
03-15-2007, 04:34 PM
i dont understand the problem... he broke a bolt where the pumpkin goes ? and thats why you want to weld the diff?

prodigys14
03-15-2007, 08:35 PM
no the diff it self is already welded and i have a stock one on the side i would want to replace the welded diff with but i cant because of that broken bolt i cant take out

Bryants95240sx
03-15-2007, 09:23 PM
If you have a broken bolt that you cant take out, ever heard of a drill?

prodigys14
03-16-2007, 03:01 AM
no its actually the nut thats welded to the sub brace/frame that broken so the bolt itself is kinda free spinning rite now... ill have to cut the head of the bold off and the take the sub frame off and reweld the nut back on i guess... which takes to much work so thats the reason i wanna know if i can just leave everything how it is rite now till i can do a 5spd swap since the "auto trans can get messed up mixed with a welded diff" which i really dont believe no more since all u guys told me nothing would happen... btw thatnks for all the help and advice

why would anyone run a welded diff on an auto? what are you going to do, show how badassed you can drift when shifting from D to "2" and then to "1"
