I have a 96 240sx. I bought it knowing it would need some work and it has ended up needing alot more than I thought. Timing chains in these cars suck when you don't pull the motor.

Anywho, I've got a bad fuel smell in the cabin. All the fuel injected lines and injectors are fine. I'm pretty sure its in the emissions system since there are some emissions-related cel's. I was able to successfully troubleshoot and replace the BPT with the help of my fsm, but in order to troubleshoot certain emissions items you need a specialized nissan diagnostics computer.

My roommate is a tech at an aftermarket Porsche shop. He took my car in and checked Alldata. He said there were a bunch of tsb's for the emissions system and I should take it to Nissan to figure out what needed to be done.

Took it to Nissan. They said they could not reproduce the fuel smell. They also said I should replace everything emissions related as well as my speedo sensor, gave me a quote, and charged me $90.

Sometimes, when I start my car it doesn't want to maintain idle and will die unless I hit the gas. One of the other problems I have is that my speedo cuts out ever-so-often. Sometimes if I give the dash a "love tap" it will come back on. My car is an auto and everything appears to be plugged in properly on the transmission with no broken wires. Is it my gauge cluster or actually my speed sensor?

Also, when I originally got the car, the o2 sensor was ghetto. I ordered an OEM one off ebay and got a engine harness side plug from the junkyard to solder on. Hadn't gotten an fsm yet and the Hanes manual (yeah, I know) didn't have the o2 sensor wiring schematic, so I guessed where the wires went. Got my fsm in the mail a week later and it turns out I guessed wrong. And I have an o2 sensor code.

I'm pretty good with cars, especially Mitsubishi's, but I don't know dick about troubleshooting emissions issues in a Nissan. Myroomate made some notes next to the cel codes

My cel codes are as follows:
+P0135 Fr heated oxygen sensor
+P0443 EVAP canister purge control valve/solenoid valve circuit - evap purge valve stuck open? evap canister purge control valve tested good
+P0446 EVAP canister vent control valve circuit
+P0505 Idle speed control function

+P1105 Map/Baro switch solenoid valve
+1400 EGR solenoid valve circuit
+1441 Vacuum cut valve bypass valve

Any help or parts you have that I need would be appreciated.

you might be able to run to Vatozone and use their code reader if you can't do it yourself on the ecu.

I had that fuel smell, and it was my charcoal cannister.

I already read the codes. I posted up what they were.

Anyone got a charcoal canister?

Just to follow-up with this, did the charcoal canister fix your problem?

I'm getting the following two codes, along with the fuel smell...
+P0135 Fr heated oxygen sensor
+P0443 EVAP canister purge control valve/solenoid valve circuit - evap purge valve stuck open?

I've replaced the purge control valve, and the o2 sensor and still get the codes.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible to test the charcoal canister before I purchase a new one? Or maybe remove it and see if removing it keeps the CEL away?

it has to be the charcoal canister leaking or the lines in ur charcoal canister. charcoal canister cannot be tested.

Check for a slight vacuum leak first. The canister rarely goes bad.
