Well i just put in a new long block in my car and it starts no problem but it sounds like a muscle car. I took the valve cover off and noticed no oil was coming up to the head. So i did some research on heavythrottle and it could be the oil pump is frozen so it needs to be primed. I couldnt really understand how to do it. So if anyone can briefly explain this process it would be appreciated.

To make things short. How do i prime my oil pump ? And also how do i build up oil pressure? The motor has been sitting for a while. Any help would be great. Thanks

uh, its also possible that there is rtv in the "do not get rtv in this hole" hole. i did that. it sucked.

also, i dont have much experience with sr20's but i do know that the pump should pretty much be self priming. so i would take off your lower oil pan (beat it with a rubber mallet to give yourself more pick-up to pan clearance while its off) and check the pick up. if all is well down there, i would take the squirters off the top part of the camshaft caps and plow air through em just to make sure they are free of debris. you can try priming it if that doesnt work. i believe the method is to use a small hose and funnel and pour oil in the hole for the oil line that goes to the turbo. (the one with a banjo fitting) if that doesnt work, i would take off the front cover and check that hole i mentioned. i seriously used a very slight amount of rtv putting that thing together and it got in there and i had no oil flow.

good luck

i primed my engine with oil by disconnecting the fuel pump fuse and unpluging the coil pack harness and cranked it over a for a little and it was oiled up, but i wouldnt keep starting it if you dont think your getting oil up top, you will do serious harm to your sr running it with no oil flow. find the problem before something serious happens. but that is how you prime your engine with oil

doing it by hand works too. Take the spark plugs out and turn it over by the crank pully.

the ideal way to prime your oil pump is to crank the engine without fuel or spark.
You do NOT want the engine to run without oil lubricating everything.
