Hey everyone, I have a rather interesting question someone should be able to answer. In the next week or two, I'll be receiving an sr to replace my ka24e.

Now, does anyone know how much or which parts of the ka are aluminum? If no one want's to purchase it(doubt it, 200k+ miles) or needs any parts off of it, I may scrap it for aluminum and try to get some extra dinero. That way I don't have to pay a service to take the motor away. I don't think Gainesville has any junk yards to take it to, not close at least.

If not much of it is aluminum (since it's based off of weight) I'll just have to bite the bullet and get rid of it through some kind of service. I feel bad just dropping it off somewhere random.

I can't find a way/guide to determine which parts are made of a aluminum besides the intake mani and the head(I think?).

It's probably not worth the trouble of parting it out to retrieve the large aluminum parts but you won't know until you ask!

Plus I figure it will give me a chance to open the motor up and see exactly how it ticks without fear of repercussions.

Put it up for sale on KA-T.org There is a bunch of guys who go SOHC-T with em. Just food for thought.

Just try to sell it. I buy local ka24e's all the time.

A magnet will tell you if it's aluminum or not. Magnet no sticky to aluminium!

Yeah, I have a feeling I'll just trash or sell but it was a thought. I wasn't sure what the market's like for a 200k+ mile ka24e.

Scrap the aluminum, it's worth it. I've cleared over a grand since I started taking it in about a year ago.

Head, intake manifold, timing cover, water outlet, pistons, valve cover, IAA and IACV are all aluminum, prices run from .47 cents a pound to .63 cents depending where you go. Some places won't accept it unless it's 'clean' (no other metals on it) while others don't care. If anything you'll have to pull the valves from the head and the rods off the pistons, but that's easy work.

Yeah, that's what I thought. The reason I started thinking of doing this was a buddy of mine scrapped a bunch of aluminum shelving that was around the same weight as a motor and he got at least I think 800$ for it. Now that was pure aluminum whereas mine isn't if you count all of the other materials that are there, but it's still worth a try either way.

Awesome. Although I do hate it here sometimes, the scantily clad college girls jogging around town make it worth it. :bigok: :bigok: :bigok:
