View Full Version : s14 manual/brake pedal swap and heel and toe question...

i was in my AT s14 today at school and was noticing the layout of the AT pedals...im planning to swap the tranny out for a MT soon, but wasnt planning to swap the brake pedal...i was just going to cut it, but upon further inspection, it seems that the layout makes it really hard (at least for me and my foot) to heel and toe...a lot harder than my MT s14 (w/o aftermarket pedals)...so my question is:
for all you guys that swapped trannies and cut the AT brake pedal, do you guys notice or have more trouble heel and toeing?
you might not have a definite answer or good comparison because of going from AT to MT w/ AT brake pedal, but i am currently driving this AT and my other MT s14 and know for sure the pedal placement and spacing is a lot different...or am i just :loco: waiting for class? so this question is more for people used to or accustomed to driving both setups quite frequently enough to tell the difference...and yes, i realize it can be altered with aftermarket pedals, but that wasnt the question...so dont tell me to get a set of razos and call it a day...
thanks for any tidbits of info or reassurance that im crazy and its all in my head...

I personally noticed a difference in the pedal placement, and height comparing AT to MT. It took gettin used to and still feels weird. I got used to using my toes for brakes, but when driving the AT converted one, I was actually using the ball of my foot with my heel. Weird.
And personally, i'd swap out the pedals before gettin Razo pedals. Do it right the first time before leaving it mickey.

Swap the pedals. If you're anal about details, you'll want it. Plus, pedal position is hard to match with the Auto pedal. I had to yank on mine a little and just ended up switching it out down the road.

Hey, PM OptionZero. He swapped from Auto to Manual a few years ago and I remember him mentioning about cutting his stock AT pedal...I forgot what he ended up doing though. I drove his car before and didn't feel anything too awkward, but he did have aftermarket pedals on there.

no need, i'm right here
I cut about an inch off the brake pedal from the left side.
I am a size 12 to 13 shoe, and i can't really do the "true" heel-toe method with a sideways foot; I use the toe-toe method, brake with left sole and then tilt the foot and gas with the right side. Works the same for us bigger drivers.
I bought Sparco pedals, cheap $25 ones that bolt on (drill own holes) to extend the gas pedal out slightly for perfect fitment. It's a cheap option if you find the stock pedals are out of whack for your comfort zone.

manual pedal + grip tape on all pedals = CHAMP!

The more popular style, with the extended lower gas pedal. Some come with that lower piece adjustable, by use of a hex key.
Skateboarding griptape works really well, again.

thanks for all the tips...ive decided to do the brake pedal also...the AT pedals just feel too awkward and misplaced for me...ive been asking around and labor for the MT swap is expensive! now im thinking if i should attempt it myself...

You mean for the pedal? Because I went to a machine shop and they cut it for me for free...

Do dealers still carry new brake pedal assemblies for the S14?
