I just got a 1991 Nissan 240SX SE. The FUNNY thing is, i have seen 91's for sale, and pics of all these 91' engines, and I just realized that mine does not look like theres, and I was wondering if someone could help me out.
On my vavle head, it says "2400, DOHC, 12V", And its tall and black with the oil cap up there (which is what the old engines look like..) Now, I thought that this engine was supposed to be a 16V??? what the ####? and i know that the SOHC is a 12v... is this some wierd hybrid engine i got?.
Secondly, the guages in my dash read in "15, 25, 35, 45 - 115" as opposed to all the pics i have seen that are in increments of ten.
ANyone have any ideas?
I wana know if i got screwed.
hehe, I got the car with 66K miles on it, and so far I am not sure if this is as clean as it was orginally made out to be.
Thanks,
-Eric

haha..yeah its shitty..you should just give it away.. j/k.. i think you have a SOHC cause I think on the SOHC valve cover it says "2400 SOHC 12v". Just make sure and double check. or maybe they just replaced the cover?

This is what I think happened.
You bought a 90 240sx with a 91 front bumper.
If you bought the car from someone of the streets, he fooled you, and good at that.
If you bought from a dealer, someone fooled the dealer, thinking its a 91.
Or its a 91, the engine blew and swap a 90 engine. this theory is a little out there.
take YER pick !

welll you can just:
unbolt your valve cover, carefully remove it so the cheap rubber gasket doesnt brake....and count how many camshfts you have....1= soch, 2 = doch ;D

he has obviuosly has a SOHC engine the question is . Is the car a 91 ?? or is it a 90. I would bet its a late model 90 that sat on the lot and got blown out in early 91 at a clearance sale that Nissan dealers always do to get rid of last years models. At which point whoever bought it first registered it in 91 so the DMV is calling it a 91 on the Title. This would not be the first time I have heard or seen stuff like this it happens often when dealers are overstocked.

I am a guy first off =)
secondly, Carfax revealed it all.
NOTE TO SELF: LOOK AT CARFAX b4 BUYING CARZ...
*says FUCK very loudly to self*
Basically
this car has WAYYYY over 200K miles on it (even though the odmeter says 66987) , the engine just says "NISSAN 2400 12 Valve"
I thought it had said DOHC, but i now remeber why i thought that, While i was working on it, i saw the 12v and i thought that was odd, so i looked in the user manual for specs, and it said 4 cyl, DOHC, but didnt say 16v, so i figured, huh, maybe its just something weird.
No, that my freinds, is a 1990 Engine in a 1991 Car...
WHY THE FUCK Would someone do that?
(btw, we are taking that guy to court, for turning back to odmeter <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> )
It is a 91', the vin says it all, but why the #### would you put the slower, OLDER, 90 engine in there?
....
=(
If I just end up keeping this, which i probably WONT (since i have to do a major suspension upgrade to it, cuz its struts and bearing plates are gone) what recommended engine mods (outside turbo) are avail for this engine?
And is this engine even worth keeping?

acutally how hard would it be to slap the DOHC head onto that engine?
or will it even work?
( i am used to my good ol 350 V8, where you can swap heads and not worry about the cams...)
Does this remind anybody else of an Inital D episode?

Yea....hehe. That silly Itsuki and his hachi go Levin.
Anyway, yea! Sue his ass! Then use that money to get yourself a better car. I'm not neccessarily encouraging you to stay away from 240SX's mind you. You can probably find a nicer one down the line.
