How important is that stupid plate that goes between the block and tranny??? I just spent 4 hours getting my stupid motor/tranny in the car and realized I forgot to put that DARN plate on.............
I really don't want to pull this stupid thing back out and fight with it all over again to put that plate on if I don't HAVE to.

you can get the plate on by only pulling the tranny off. its only a 35 min job to drop the tranny. and you can leave the clutch on. so i would say spend the time and do it right.

the tranny won't come out wit hte engine in, can't get to the upper tranny bolts. What's the stupid thing for anyway???? I can't find it in the FSM.........
they can be gotten, ultra mega extension and get it from the way back or try from the top of the engine.

I've been known to cut it in half and slide each half in separately, all that is needed is to take the bellhousing bolts out. As for the top two, you shouldn't have put those in period, but you can get them from the top side of the engine without too much trouble. I leave those out on every car I mess with, makes it 10x easier down the road.

use lots of swivel extensions and make sure the car is at an adequate height to work on it. Nothing sucks more than having your face 3 inches from the damn frame and trying to get at an impossible bolt.

it acts as a gasket and keeps dirt n shit from getting into your clutch flywheel area.....

is that all it does?? If so, I don't HAVE to put it in right???

No. But you'll need to continually inspect the back of the flywheel for debris/wear and hope a rock or something similiar never bounces up off the road and jams between the fywheel and bellhousing.

I know someone who thought they had rod knock. Turned out the tranny was pushing on the crank without the spacer causing the crank to walk.

Well, I unfortunately got my engine out, and bent it in hafl to get it around the flywheel and got the tranny back on, now I have no one to help me put the darn motor back in my car.............

i never ran those trans plates in my cars and ive never had anything bad happen. car was daily driven, drifted and dragged. i guess the reason i never ran it, is because i always forgot to put it in....lol.

You could run without but imo you want that thing on. If you dont; dirt can even get into tranny and can mess things up. The biggest fear though would be like R240NA said and thats a rock or something getting in there a totally messing the flywheel up.
Be safe and do it right; put it on.

i got the 2 top bolts off, by lowering the back half of the tranny and the top bolts are easier to get to,
i need to find info on how to put back the sr tranny back, just wanna be safe, i searched on zilvia and freshalloy, can't find much, i also need the torque specs for the bolts to the bell housing.
