i just got my tranny rebuilt and the shop says to use 30 wieght motor oil in it? dosent that mess up the synchros in your tranny? too thin? another sr20 shop told me as well that using motor oil in your gear box is cool too (wont mess it up).. dosent the factory manual call for 75-90w for sr/ka manual gearboxes? anyone using 10-30w motor oil in their gearbox?:tweak:

Hello ,I run a blend of 120wt gear oil and 30wt motor oil. Works good for me ,car is DD & Tracked !!!
actually for a rebuilt tranny, you're supposd to run 10w-30 in your tranny for ~500 miles, then switch to gear oil.

I've done it before (after a rebuild) with my Mustang...its factory fluid is actually ATF, so the 30W oil "should" have better properties, however I did switch back to factory recommended after 5K & put another 100K+ on it...

10-30 is the same viscosity as 75-90 gear oil
The DA guys do it, so obviously Zilvia will need to do it in 6 months.

Been doing it for years, found out about it back in 2001 from a friend at a tranny shop. Lots of racers have done it for years. Much smoother shifts.

Wow, why isn't this info anywhere? So 10w-30 is the best viscosity to run? There's 10w40 and 10w50 and all that.
If they're the same viscosity, why is gear oil so thick? That doesn't make sense to me. Someone please explain. I love new info.
