I just took off my exhaust, just the pipe, and it freaking is loud, but when my brother tried to put the damn pipe back, he stripped the Nut(s) holding it on, so i can put on my exhaust pipe again....is it smart to just keep it like this, since i've already gotten used to it being so loud (it's not that loud), or should i go n try n fix the stripped nut?? what should i do??? my brother knows how to run cars with no exhaust, so no danger in that...i just wanna know if it's smart, or will it damage the car over time....

????????????????
Fix it.

well it is louder than normal cars, but it's not as loud as other "no-exhaust" cars. By brother has a 95 civic running no exhaust, but it's REALLY loud. Mind is "really" loud, not REALLY loud...lol...get it?

ive been running no exhaust 4 3 months and a lot of people like the sound. its not that bad exept for the fact that you have to turn the radio up louder. plus it scares HONDAS!!!!!!!

jakal
02-19-2007, 09:54 AM
yeah it does sound nice, and it does scare MOST hondas (i was beat down by a 11 sec sleeper one day...), but i was really wondering if it would bring long-term, if any, ANY damages to the car.

depending on where you live is a major factor in this, if the police dont hassle you, and your too lazy to fix the stripped nut then just leave it off, if not fix that bad boy

Your engine will be fine. So as long as the one time doesn't trip on the noise keep rolling.

Yeah, people never die form exhaust fumes entering the car.

Carbon monoxide is good for your brain!

In Colorado, they changed the law that used to allow people to ride in truck beds, after a number of deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning from passengers (exhaust swirled back into the bed, and killed people)...and you have your dumping right under you seat!

So...NO, it won't hurt the car or motor. But you might die or poison yourself.

FYI.

It's not redneck, it's just idiot.

"It's loud but not THAT loud..."
"That honda was REALLY loud, mines just really loud..."
"well it is louder than normal cars, but it's not as loud as other "no-exhaust" cars"

For the love of god stop trying to explain this....

Fix the bolts and get your exhaust back on. And to answer your question, no it won't damage your car, just your hearing.

:jerkit: :cj: :jerkit:

in the long run it hurts the motor, open headers on NA motors in general burn up valve guides and destroy compression on the exaust side over time (the hot air just sits in there and burns up the valves). No scavenging and no gas expulsion from the cylinder in a complete manner.

I think people (hondas or whatever) are just afraid because it sounds like a jalopy flying down at them so they pull over and let you crash somewhere else.

put your exaust back, its a myth , it kills power and motors, put a stock exaust back if you have to, youll still have more pwr and a smoother trq curve.

theres a skilled way to drive without an exhaust?

sure there is it involves a standalone, a custom pipe to exit the car at some point the appropriate mechanical cam timing adjustments to both intake and exaust, the appropriate cam size for intake exaust and lots of dyno tuning, better valve seals and valves are also prolly a good idea as well as methanol...

so yeah its really fuking easy! :coolugh:

It probably flows nice and runs nice for a couple a months. Exhaust is meant to give you some back pressure for na cars and probably makes car run a little rich. Don't quote me on that.

Ya, because the NA back pressure statement is a complete myth. Exhaust is to get the exhaust gases far enough to the rear of the car so as to not gas the occupants and to scavenge the gases from the engine so as to work better i.e. torque and hp wise.

I dont mean to go off topic but I didnt know that no exhaust could burn valves. Is it possible then that some exhausts have too much free flow and certain exhausts such as bc spec II or some supras 4.5 inch exhausts can hurt the motor? I was always under the impression that on turbo motors bigger is better.

This is interesting.

On a sidenote, put your exhaust back on, Im in georgia as well with the land of trucks with straight headers and my sr'd car with no exhaust is still annoying. Its stripped, fix it.

HAHAHA that's the truth 99% of the time. Small displacement NA cars sound like shit with open exhaust. It's totally true that running NA motors open header (or with an exhaust leak very close to the head) lets oxygen up onto the back side of the valve (which burns with any unburned fuel) and destroys the seat. If the exhaust is off behind the cat, it's probably not doin much to the valves.

Turbo cars, on the other hand, can get away with running rediculously large exhausts because the turbo doesn't allow oxygen up into the manifold, hence turbo/drag bikes/cars with open dump pipes.

NA = Loud
Turbo = Ok

i dunno how cops are around your place but in socal..they are bitches..

it shouldnt do any damage as long as its after the cat

That's true, if you amend it to say "open head".

If you have +6 inches of exhaust tubing off of each cylinder, there no way that fresh air is being drawn anywhere near the valve if the motor's running.

So open header is fine in that respect. No exhaust is fine in that respect. BIG exhaust is fine in that respect.

But, and open head (no header, no nothing)...that's bad...for the reasons you described.

lol, i was just wondering if it would do longterm damages to my engine, but thanks for the info...the cops down here are fags, but so far, so good...i havent been pulled over yet, and yes it's from the cat, not the headers...
