I was wondering if anyone used a painless wiring kit on their 240sx. I want to get one for my 91 240 and I want to know if anyone could help me pick one.

I've used there smaller wiring kits, fans and stuff. I'm buying the fuel pump relay kit and I was thinking about the fues box. Everything I've had or scene from them is top notch and all works great. You just cant be retarded when installing any wiring jobs and they will come out good.

did you bypass all the relays because i m trying to get a simple thing going and connect them to switchs.

You're trying to get rid of relays and replace them with switches? If I'm reading that right, you need to learn about electricity son... Those relays are necessary because of the amount of current that runs through them - if you bypass headlight/fuel pump/etc relays, you'll have serious heat problems in whatever switches you're using.

I too am looking into using a painless kit. I would like to pull the WHOLE harness though. I want everything on switches. Ignition, Lights and everything. Anyone done this? *a

right now im in the process of finishing up a full scratch harness build.
it really isnt too bad, just think about what functions you need,
then map out what wires and components you need to control those functions. then just look at there you want to place everything, and run all your wires to a central fuse and relay board.
its all pretty easy, i did it with all the stock wires. you dont really need anything from painless, but im sure if you have the money it will more than be worth it.

I don't recommend this until you have a thorough understanding of electronics.
It's actually not that bad. You just need to understand a few simple things:
* Electrons are negatively charged carriers that flow from an area that has excess electrons (-) to an area that is electron-deficient (+).
* If you have a circuit, or a broken one, electrons will follow the path of least resistance. This results in a short or an unintended flow of current.
* You need to understand the relationship between voltage, current/amperage, resistance, and power.
* You need to understand the load capacity of different wire gauges.
* You need to know how to use relays and diodes.
* You need to be proficient with soldering and insulating.
Otherwise, it's very simple. Electrical wiring is very difficult if you don't know what you're doing, and very tedious if you do know what you're doing.
Asking if anybody has experience with Painless is pointless because the individual setups are so different that you are not going to get a solid answer.
I know you want a plug-and-play kit, but the way wiring works it really depends on your car. A good electrician will charge $75-100 per hour for as long as it takes to finish the job, and I don't blame them because it's very complicated, not difficult, but complicated.
I personally can tear down an S13 and completely rebuild the wiring in about a weekend. Russ can probably do it in about 2 hours, but keep in mind that it takes a lot of patience, common sense, a little electronic research, as well as countless hours with the FSM.

I have heard those stories from Phlip about Russ and his madness with wiring. haha. I am picking up a FSM this week too. Zeroyon FSM back up or is there another site hosting it? *a

I'm redoing mine again for I don't know how many times now. I'll try to source either a Painless or Longrace kit, but chances are I will have to do major reworking for my application.
I'm putting all my components in a custom relay box in the rear passenger seat area for easy access.
