in case your wondering, the Reno Fernley Raceway skidpad is huge. ther's a giant hill next to it. on the side of the hill there's a different levels where watchers can do what they do, and watch. on the top of the hill is parking for the watchers. i snaged a pic form RFR's website and wrote on it:

we're using the skidpad. the larger one, as illustrated. sorry to get your hopes up about the whole track, that's the best picture i could find. and there was a motorcycle school there last time we were, so i didn't take my own pics.

When does registration close?

midnight march 22. by midnight tonight, registration is supposed to be online.

From what time to what time; start til end?

get there by 8:00 to ensure plenty of time for tech, tardy registration and other mumbo jumbo. registration will close 9:20ish. tech will go until 9:30 when the drivers meeting starts. driver's meeting 9:30. 10:00 am tires will get hot. we'll go until 3:00 or when everyone runs out of tires, whichever comes first. lunch break some time in there too. if all goes smoothly, we'll stay late and have fun runs until dark.

we'll take all the entrants we can get.

Are there any instructors?

Pro Control Driving Academy will be on staff. they are the drive school that lives at RFR. and they are coincidentally giving us their skid pad time(aka important sponsor, go give all your left over money to Pro Control).

The March 24 Drift-o-Rama has been postponed to a later date. Reasons are personal to the track time provider. Fellow enthusiasts please join us, we will still have an unofficial group drive through the mountains the same date. Meet at 8:00am March 24 at the Lakeside Inn and Casino upstairs restaurant for breakfast. (check www.lakesideinn.com for directions) Drive should last for a few hours. Radios available. This drive isn’t just for the drift crowd either; half of us that make Tahoe Motorsports drive Subarus. Please contact me so we can get an idea of how many want to join us. Or contact me for more info, or see our updated website (www.tahoemotorsports.com).

+1000 For the Main track, I think you might have alot of people from all over the nation make it to your event ;)

sorry if this sound wrong, but the event has been canceled. see post #15.

the whole 4.2 mile track would be awesome, but it would definetly not be a $75 entrance fee. we're shooting for that whole affordable thing. and $150 plus tires isn't all that affordable for me. thats not even including the amount of entrants that need to be there(aka: less runs, more money, crowded staging/pits/parking, more insurance coverage, blah, blah, blah).

once we establish a tangible drift attendance here in northern ca/nv, then i would be willing to take the risk of eating the bill for track rental.

We'll be running the whole 4.2 mile course in June. Of course it wont be for drift and it wont be for $75.

Believe me, if you schedule it, they will come.

You need the full course open. Yes, it will be more expensive. The first person to do a full track at reno, will be booked by some of the best unsigned talent nationally, instantly, guaranteed.

June 23-24 sat/sun. $200 for one day, $375 for both days. They'll supply bottled water and gatorade, snacks, catered lunch, driving instruction, and at least 2 hours of track time per day! And yes, the whole track will be open. Here is more info.

The drive went great. Not much of a turn out though. The original rout was closed due to winter closure(duh). Plan B: we drove hwy 28 up the east shore of Tahoe. One of our guys got puked on because he chose to tailgate a car that must have had a hung-over dude in the backseat. We stopped in Incline to wash the car. Then we drove over Mt. Rose to Reno then hwy 341 to Virginia City. There we ate at a friend’s restaurant; the Bonanza Café.

After that we drove down the truck route, which as I understand is, backwards, the same road as the Ferrari hill climb. The rx7 got brake fade, Alex’s STi with green stuff pads got a little fade and some stink. My favorite part was when my Axxis “ultimate” pads smoked at the bottom of the hill. This is really cool because I didn’t notice any fade. And I have slightly blue rotors now. Too bad it’ll polish away in a couple of days.

To finish off we went back through Carson City, took Jacks Valley road to hwy 395/88 then came back to Tahoe from the south with a stop at my house in Meyers then bbq’ed at Gabe’s house.

We as a crew of enthusiasts did learn valuable lessons and skills from trying to organize a potentially fun time, only to get the shaft from a big un-organized business in the end. And we still know how to have a fun time. Further more, we’ll strive to bring good races and events to our community filled with other enthusiasts. Thanks for looking.
