so i lost my keys a while back.. and i just got my car running again after a while.. i didnt have any keys so i used my friends who has a 240.. i wiggle it in and it turns the ignition and starts the car.. but my steering wheel locks
so its the keys right? nothing else? i searched and it seems this hardly happens
thanks. im getting a key made for it soon.

yeah its the key, the way the lock cylinder works is when you turn the key part of it acts to move a pin out of the way allowing the steering wheel to turn, and the other part turns a tab coming out of the other end of the lock cylinder, that little tab turns the center circle part of a switch which is what turns your car on and off.

best bet is to just get a new key
dealership should do it for almost nothing, think its like 17 dollars

That is dirt cheap. Go to the dealer. It is the key.
Make like a million copies of your new key when you get it. Store some in your house, work, etc. Just don't let anybody else get to them.

Or what you could do is remove the steering lock mechanism altogether. Drill out the 2 tamper-proof bolts and unhook the unit.
