is this good? or a bad thing to do...wondering if i will lose hp or gain...?

NA should get about 2.5 inches max.

i ran 3" on my ka for a while. you're not gonna notice the 2hp loss or gain. i just needed something
so that i could hear my motor over the sound of my tires at the track. plus stock exhaust will just
get leaks when you beat on it.
i used to spend time worrying about the .5 horsepower i might get from different oil, or a
z32 fuel filter. it's retarded. you probably won't notice a difference anywhere around 140-150.
save yourself the stress. get the exhaust, and tell yourself it's faster.

yea u probably won't notice it...
theoretically, you will probably loose a little in the low end and gain a little top end...

Hmmm, I stuck the BC spec II on my completely stock NA with a gutted cat and now I cant rev past 5500 RPM lol. Maybe its cause I have nearly no backpressure....but who knows?

sounds like a timing problem or an o2 problem buddy. My roomate ran 3 inch all the way back only one resonator and it was fine. You lose like low end hp and torque barely but you gain high end.

There was a thread just like this a week or two ago.
And there are countless ones before that.

You mean people have discussed shit on the internet before?

yeah
i had 2.5" custom exhaust w/ resonator on my KA for long time
then put on 3" custom exhaust w/ resonator on my KA
3" "felt" much faster on the track, more responsive, but who cares about HP, its a KA
and 3" looks cooler, with that spec L muffler ;)

Custom 3" catback over here, hollow cat, who cares, an exhaust really won't make much difference on an NA motor.
Backpressure is never good, never. Some people run open downpipes. :)

people ask this question all the time, and everytime people say you will lose low-end torque or power, then everytime someone posts Alex Chang's dyno chart where he installed a 3" system on his NA KA and there were power and torque gains throughout the entire rev range. You will not lose power, but it will probably be loud as hell, and since it looks like you are in california, that's not a good idea.

yes. this is the furthest this thread should get, discussion-wise.

There are numerous threads about 3" exhaust if you look. There's even one with a DYNO that proves you don't lose power on KA with 3" you GAIN power.
IIRC S14DB will come in here to prove it.

The only reason you feel that you lose low end torque is all the restrictions you had on stock exhuast catback.
I'd still run 2.5'' on a Stock KA, esp. in California. On the other hand, I doubt you'll gain any less power than a 3'' diamter, as long as the piping geometry is similar.

You're right, that last thread turned into an argument and I STILL don't know how in the hell global warming got involved in it.
... I will lock this one before someone manages to turn it into "Darwin vs. Jesus," and because this has been discussed before, quite often at that.
