I have a 1990 fastback with 106k miles. Im not sure if i should mod/turbo my sohc, or swap the car with a dohc then turbo it. or get the sr. Everyone would say SR, but i live in CALIfornia (smogs a bitch), would cost me about 4.5k to get it done...then find connections, not sure if its worth it. What should i do?

DOCH then turbo, i dont see what the SR engine has over the KA24DE...

why should he spend thousands on another KA just for a meazly 15hp? and then turbo on top of that? Seems way too expensive a thing to do.

There are quite few people with the stated purpose of getting the most out of the KA24E. A KA24ET can easily keep pace with a KA24DET, it just depends on how much $ you're willing to spend.

He doesn't have an overabundant number of miles of the SOHC, so why throw $ at a DOHC that could otherwise go to strengthening the internals, or getting a better FMIC/AFC/TT/etc etc. It'd be one thing if he had 200k on it, but it comes down to the condition of the engine.

Get a tuneup, get a compression check, get that turbo kit... be happy with your boost

Well, KA are a dime a dozen. I could maybe find one for like $300. Then whats the poteintal on the sohc if i turbo it? Did the internals ect ect. The engine is in ect. condition when we got it checked. I want to have it do 12's maybe 11's, but can the engine take it?

Both KA's will not do 12's, 11's without internal and fuel system build-up.

I would say SR is the best route for you, and if you don't want to pay $4,000 for it (installed and everything) then I dont see how you're going to spend around the same amount to run 12's, 11's on any KA.

Guess ill save up for an SR then......

would an SR run 11's?

It comes down to money.

Personally I feel that if you throw enough $ at it, it'll go as fast as you'd want (within reason). However the output potential of the SR seems higher than the KA in general (no flaming! NO KA vs SR debates dammit!.

Bear in mind that dragging is not the 240's strong suit, sure it can do it, but it was never meant to be a straight line racer.

i dont see what the sr has over the ka, and because of the extra .4 litres wouldnt you think that the KA has more potential. I havent really looked into what hte SR has

You make a good point, stock for stock, SR will handle more power without build up.

So it comes down to how much pwoer you want, and which engine would be best for YOU and the set-up you want to run.

the KA and SR could both reach 11s, we have a few people close to it with 12s, I am sure there are people somewhere around running 11s, possibly 10sm and i heard or drag 240 doing 9s
