kdashy - seriously! It makes my stomach turn!
I've had my 240 stolen a similar way (not gonna describe it, it's not smart to tell people how to steal our cars), luckily it was before I had any mods to speak of so they just took the head unit. Ugh... 2 way paging remotes on your keychains, park as close as possible to where you're going, and hidden kill switches people!
On a lighter note, I'm truely glad this is a "almost got stolen" and not a "OMG my shit got jacked" thread... you're lucky, and especially lucky that you had extra parts to fix your windows. What'd you need to fix them, new tracks?

What kind of people were they and how old did they look? Was it at night? I would of got into the car and chased them or atleast get one of them.

there is no way to steal my car inless you have a tow trunk... so i am not worry at all.... the car looks super stock inside and out no cd player.. but its ok.. my track car has gps tracking.. i think iam going to install it in my daily driver for now. just in case they come back with a tow truck..

^^ I dont know if they are trying to turn it into an Ethnicity thing, but I agree lets NOT turn it into that. But I do think that as detailed of description as possible of the people and the car they were in would be helpful.
Sorry to hear man, but at least like someone else said, at least it is an almost got my car stolen thread, instead of My car was stolen thread.

GPS tracking... sounds like I need something like that too. What kind do you use? You can never be too careful.
I took my car to work one day, this was when I used to work in Azusa down the street from the canyons, and some person came to look at my car. I called the cops. :) Don't care if it was an admirer or a thief... Take no chances!

wow, you were really lucky! seems like the 240's are just getting worse and worse with the thieves. i'm shocked this happened in broad daylight, right outside of home depot no less! I'm not so sure even itr owners would have to deal with that. it's all getting to be pretty out of control in CA.

Contact DMV and his insurance. tell him to have his car garaged elsewhere. the thieves will prolly use it to stake out your homies house for his car and possibly friends that come by with nice cars. it happened to friend here in so cal. they stole her car at the grocery store. like 3 weeks later they stole her sisters car from her house.
I'm tired of this shit. I want to start baiting a 240 around the local areas and fucking go vigilante on them. have like 4 other cars (non 240s nearby with radios and cell-phones. Fucking get midevil. Shit i'll chop a mutha-fuckers hands off. GOtta make them an example so others will get the hint.

^cali sucks at the moment. As most of known already when it comes to theives and laws.
like for instance, the DMV is trying to make me smog my car again for registration. I did it in 06 for registration, its suppose to be every other year.
Luckily i have all my paperwork from previous registration smogs and such. So im not about to waste 40 bucks when i dont have to do it.
quick little rant. sorry.

A quickrelease alone is pointless. Being as how if you have a wheel with a quick release of the same type, such as a ball type. It will go straight on.
What you need is a quick release lock.

Do any of the stolen cars have quick releases? I know thats a good security measure but Im getting a battery disconnect thing with a key as well.
as with the general rule of security, adding extra layers is always a good thing.
however, the only thing i worry about is the insurance companies. i've heard that if you remove the factory airbag (getting a quick release w./ an aftermarket steering wheel would do this), they will not cover you if you get into an accident. that's the main reason why i've refrained from doing this to my car. the other reason is that it's not a cheap security measure either.
also you figure for the price of getting a hub, quick release, quick release lock, and decent steering wheel will cost you around $500 or so. for that $$$, i'd rather spend a bit more and get a lojack instead.
personally i think the best security measure would be to keep your car looking as stock and sleeper as possible. having fancy and/or larger wheels and other visable mods are prob gives the most attention to theives. case in point, i've owned a beater crx si for the 5 past years. its looks like a pos, and never has been broken into. last year i had it lowered, thrown in a set of 15x6.5 rotas w/ nicer tires, had a sparco seat, and a rollbar thown in. my car got stolen within half a year. the car was left on the street 2 days later. the theives stole most of the nicer parts, and even some trivial junk like the stock cassete deck, and the 'Si' badge, but they didnt even bother taking my engine!
if my crx had remained stock looking, i really doubt it would have been worth stealing. i think the same principle could apply to our cars. its prob a lot more desirable to theives than a crx (or maybe not, its a honda), but by throwing on nicer parts that you can see that makes it even more prone to theft imo. for the same reason i'm a bit reluctant to throw on the 17" volks i got recently. i think i may mount on some used, cheap looking 300zx wheels with flaking chrome instead. :P

You can steer a car that has no steering wheel with a vice grip...
If you take your quick release with you, they could just remove the other half and pop a vice grip on there and drive it like that.
I've done it on my car when I had no steering wheel on it...drove it 4 blocks like that like nothing was wrong with it

I keep reading about peoples' cars getting jacked all the time here. Anyone here use an autolock or anything?
I use Quick Release w/ lock, Auto Lock on the clutch pedal, and Viper 2 way page system. I also disconnected the cable to the trunk, now you have to open the trunk by key. This way I don't need to carry my Steering Wheel with me, I just place it in the trunk (S14 BTW).
Glad you caught them in the act before they actually had taken your car! If that were to happen to me, I would of ran back in Home Depot got a nice pipe and beat the shit out of them.

a few months back.. someone tried stealing my 180sx twice in one week (right outside my apartment).. then a few weeks later, they tried AGAIN... here's the short list of events
attempt one: dead battery (thank god)
attempt two: i had taken out the ignition fuse
- bought Sparco hub and steering wheel with NRG quick release
attempt three: no ignition fuse and the steering wheel was safely inside my apartment - soooooooooooooo they took the stereo.. bastards
...i live in a somewhat nice area (so i thought) outside of the city.. there is nothing worse then someone "f"ing you in the "a" by messing with your car.

Did you get the plate # to the car they were driving?
Why do police ask ethnicity then?
It's important for a APB or a description of the suspects.
that's totally legitmate.
You should call the cops and give them the full description, clothing, hieght, race, eye color even.
whatever you can do to help give an ID.

ask home depot security if they have any outside surveillance tapes. might help, but you have to do it quickly I think because the DVR might loop back and record over old stuff.

I'm glad you're ride didn't get jacked. It would be truly bad ass to own one of those locks that mount on you're wheels when you get too many parking tickets. Let's see someone try and jack that shit now!!!!!!

You can steer a car that has no steering wheel with a vice grip...
If you take your quick release with you, they could just remove the other half and pop a vice grip on there and drive it like that.
I've done it on my car when I had no steering wheel on it...drove it 4 blocks like that like nothing was wrong with it
little more work for them if u have this too. and a cliffors G5 and ur phone rings telling u that ur car alarm went off and a backu up battery siren just in case they disconnect your battery andddd always park close to entrance where people always walk by.
