the build list is pretty rad. let me know how that clutch works out, i've got the hks twin plate now and i've heard good things about the exedy.

also, what kind of racing do you have planned for a setup like this?

RB36 is not a real engine... RB25s came in non-GTR cars. Not sure if Skylines were equipped with RB20s, but I do know they came in other cars like A31 Cefiros, etc. RB26DETT was in all GTRs (R32/R33/R34) with a few minor differences between the different versions.

r32 gts-t and gts-4 (4wd) came with the rb20det. In the later years of the r32 there was the option of having the series 1 rb25det, so there are a few r32 gts25t floating around, never seen one though.
Earlier skylines also came with rb20det, some were silver top (ECCS) most were red top (NICS) had valve covers like a CA.
No skylines later than r32 had rb20 turbo engines from factory.

For those of you asking for pictures, just search his past posts, you'll find it the pics. I recall this car not being well recieved, due to it's lack of purpose, and over use of Carbon Fiber.

I wouldn't go that far about my car, unless you are referring to the Poopra's..and then I would have to agree about several. But then again, the bulk of my Supra customers are Highway Roll-on guys, who have probably never stepped foot on a drag strip.

I can post up plenty of drag strip video of this car if you are interested..

Sure, it's used as a demo car by BFG, but it's not only a "show car."....

You'll be happy to know that the carbon fiber was removed in exchange for painted fiberglass pieces. (Except for the carbon fiber vented hood now installed.)

While the carbon definitely got attention, with both negative and positive feedback, it was prone to cracking, did not fit 100%, and was not designed for a true street car.

This new setup I intend to beat the crap out of when we it comes off the end of it's last show tour contractual obligation with BF Goodrich Tires. (Runs through 2007)

The approach I have taken with the car is very different than the approach taken in 2004.

I'm not doing this for the sponsors, I'm doing this for myself, and what I always envisioned the car to be.

No, I was referring to 800 HP at the crank....

The turbo alone is good for about 700-750whp on race gas.

700whp is 9 sec territory in a 240SX, which is my personal goal....

Yes, it is the same car, but at that time, not even a boost controller was installed.

I ran it that night at the drag strip about a week after the swap was finished. Just wanted to get a baseline @9-10 PSI.

Yes, I sold the car back in January 2005, but I was able to buy it back in January 2007. Less than 250 miles had been put on the vehicle since the day I sold it, so I was glad to see it back in the same condition as it left.

Heard rumors that the carbon fiber got painted/geting painted....is it true? :x:

It's true....The carbon fiber was painted back in 2004, shortly after the HCI magazine photo shoot.

But photos were never posted up, as the new owner wanted to have the honor...

But I dont know that he ever did, and I'm not going to post any photos til I have the engine bay finished.

The candy apple red valve covers, and Chrome Powdercoated Intake Manifold look amazing.

The car does have a S15 CF Vented Hood now, and still has the Carbon Fiber Spoiler...but everything else is painted TruBlue Pearl....

Got the Candy Apple Red Valve Covers back from Powder Xpress (with NUR Spec Plate from RB Motoring) last night, will have the Chrome Powdercoated Intake Manifold and OEM TT Piping back early part of next week.

They did an amazing job on the Candy Powder Coat. They have a blazing fast 72 hour turn around time, and you simply mail them your pieces to be done.

Cost me $150ish, and was well worth the money. http://www.powderxpress.com/

Here are the pictures taken with my crappy cheap digital camera. I'll get some better images for you guys that may be interested in using Powder Express.

Candy is hard to shoot with my cheap camera, as the gloss comes across blurry. They are absolutely stunning, and will really wake my bland engine bay up.

Especially, as the Black Paint was peeling off my Valve Covers and Intake Manifold.

Yep, Geoff and the guys at Full-Race are class acts. I spoke with Geoff before beginning the build, and he offered some great advice on a wide variety of issues.

We'll just have to see what happens...

But with 240SX's in the 8's and 9's, there's no need to re-invent the wheel, and I will probably copy a proven setup.

Well...I'm VERY interested in what you come up with, besides awd...that's just crazy.

For now I'm going to settle from some 335 drag radials because the 315/35/17 "performance street" tires I'm running are rather pathetic... but they were good enough to wax the prick in his Diablo on the way home from the hardware store lol.

700+ whp on race gas.

I will be using BF Goodrich K/D's as my daily driver type tire....

But on the weekends at the drag strip, or at car meets, I'll be on Drag Radials...

335's?

Hell, I'm having problems enough running larger than a 10" wheel without doing body modifications.

I dont see anyway a 335 can fit, without going widebody, or having major wheel/tire overhang.

Yep, many imports guys look at nitrous like it's only something to be used by mullet having Camaro owners.

It's a simple lack of knowledge, that leads them to feel this way.

At the same time, many import guys are fully aware of it's benefits, and know how to tune for it, and do.

On a turbocharged application, nitrous is great for advancing spoolup times off the line, which is what I would be using it for on the Stage III build. (Next year, if money allows.)

From a roll race, where I am already churning some RPM's, it probably wont be used on this car, since the turbos are not laggy enough not to have this issue.

But on the drag strip, it will become very handy.

godzillarb
02-19-2007, 07:06 AM
If you're worried about lag / spool up at the drag strip why not just run some anti-lag control software? The AEM EMS has this setting and you could boost to 15-20psi in neutral if you wanted to.

When I get tuned it'll probably be set to boost 5psi or so, seeing as any more would break my shit in a second.

Just wanted to update the thread.
Check out the new mod list in my intro post.

We decided to scrap the twins, and instead went with a GT4088R.

This turbo should make the 700whp I am shooting for, and we'll know in the next few weeks.

The block is finished, and we are just waiting on OEM Valve Seals before we start on the headwork.

Looking forward to dynoing the car in the next 4-6 weeks.

Why eagle rods?

They were free! :boink: Joking....

I did receive a sponsorship, but I truly believe in Eagle's quality, and I have used them on several domestics with no problems.

People on the import boards prefer to use the JDM brands, but the Eagle rods are fine up to about 1000whp on a 6 cylinder.

Without a doubt, the biggest aggravation with my 240SX has been breaking axles.

I have in all seriousness replaced the left side at least five times, and have broken on the line at the drag strip twice. This is quite embarrassing to say the least.

I noticed that Duy (1000whp 2JZ S14) and Mark (Mazworx T88 S14) have both ran the Mazworx axles, and they have held up to multiple 8 sec passes without breakage.

"The Mazworx 32 spline outer joint and upgraded inner joint will give years of lasting service. The Kit includes driver and passenger axles, new hubs with ARP Extended Wheel Studs already pressed in, and the Mazworx Inner Joint adapter to make all the parts a bolt on affair."

Considering my car is a street car, and I'm shooting for the high 9's, I figure this setup should hold all I can throw at it.

They are $1799 plus shipping, but worth their weight in gold. 1 Year Limited Warranty.

Here's an image of the pieces included in their kit:

http://mazworx.accountsupport.com/cartadmin/graphics/axleweb1.jpg

DriveShaftShop does offer their own version ($1599/ rated for 900 HP), but it isn't nearly as complete, and only replaces the axles themselves....which is only half the problem in that car.

http://www.driveshaftshop.com/item170760.ctlg

If anyone wants to post up other manufacturers, I'd love to get a list going.

To my knowledge, these are the only two making upgraded setups for the 240SX.

the sr seems to be up to the task for me so far.

good luck, let us know how laggy that big old 4088r is

dont get your hopes up mate, it will be a bit of lag even with a divided setup

also i thik you will need two banks of 72 lb/hr injectors so youll need to modify the intake mani

or just get a really good external pump to a surge tank ot just on top of the intank pump for boosted fuel pressure,

but 1000cc is kind of treading the line, consdiering the amount of power and CFM's you will be flowing.

**edit** you have that big of a problem braking axles???

I havent had trouble at all over the years, even at 400 ft lb torque at the wheel levels.

Did you use slicks and a quiafe lsd or something?

So, after swapping to beefed up axles, are you worried about lunching the R200?

I wanted to post some pics of the build on my car to show it's progress level.

I had to order custom motor mounts for the car, and they should be here sometime later this week.

Right now, it appears like the car is 2-3 weeks from being completed.

It would be much sooner, but I am still waiting on parts to arrive from Japan.

Yes.

I'm down in Burleson, TX. My brother (who lives in Searcy, AR and has the KA-T 240SX) now runs Underground Motorsports, an online webstore.

What's the hole for?

On the recommendation of an Australian GTR tuner, I had the machine shop remove the top freeze plug in the back of head.

It was tapped with a 1 in. NPT thread, and I will be running a -12 AN return line back to a welded in fitting on the the oil pan.

The RB26 has many issues with too much oil being trapped in the head and then starving the oil pan at high acceleration.

This should just about eliminate this issue at 8000+ RPM, as under acceleration most of the oil will rush to the back of the head and return back to the oil pan.

We used a Tomei Oil Restrictor in the block, to even further try to decrease any issues.

If you are running a RB25DET block, then most of the tuners weld one of the two feeds shut. The RB26DETT block already has one of the oil feeds welded closed from the factory.

Yep, BF Goodrich Drag Radials for the street, and MT ET Street Slicks for the drag strip.

Well, the decision was made to go with a Ford C4 Tranny w/transbrake and GearVendors Overdrive Setup. This should allow the car to remain very streetable, yet a solid performer on the drag strip.

ATI transmissions is currently sponsoring the car with their Super Damper, so I am giving them first shot at the tranny.

If not, I have decided to go with Performance Automatics http://www.performanceautomatic.com/transc4.htm and the PA26107 Super Comp Tranny w/Transbrake, as this is supposed to be the top of the line performance C4 tranny on the market.

PA offers a lifetime warranty, and will replace the tranny if it fails. That speaks volumes about their quality.

After talking with Ivan @ AMS, and [email protected] Desynz Motorsport in Australia, it's a no brainer.

In Australia, they make a Cast Conversion Bellhousing to mate the RB block to the C4 tranny. This will be great, as the swap will be clean, and it should look like it belongs in the tunnel.

I'm still curious on how this car will hold up with the 4.08 OEM rearend.

No worries, as BF Goodrich is the main sponsor on the car, and getting tires has not be an issue thus far.

Hey Guys,

This footage is from 2004, and was used in the 2007 release of the movie Adrenaline: Unleashed from www.srvidz.com

It's a 30 second teaser, but you get the idea.

This was the Underground 240SX completely stock with the boost controller on the stock turbo's set to 16 PSI.

The SRT-4 was running 18 PSI plus a 75-100 shot of nitrous.

A little brake cleaner and some black spray paint really improved the look of the spindles.

As you probably notice, the threads on the hubs are extended for use with aftermarket drag wheels.

Monday Night, Andy and I worked til 2 a.m. @ Southern Imports to get the motor running.

When we attached the AEM EMS ECU, it started first crank with the AEM supplied base map.

I was very impressed with how simple the box is to use, and I want to thank Sean Morris for taking my phone call late at night to confirm we had the configurations setup accurately.

We still have lots of work left to be done, and these are, by no means, final images.

As you can see, there are aftermarket gauge sensors that need to be hooked up. The boost controller is not installed, the intake for the turbo still needs to be ordered, downpipe has not been fabricated, and the upper intercooler piping has not been polished.

But the motor runs, and that's a success in itself.

Yesterday, I transported the car to Texas, and will be finishing up the car here.

Once again, thanks to Andy Vaughn @ Southern Imports in Murfreesboro, TN. He, by himself, built 95% of the car that you are fixing to see. He is a amazing fabricator, engine builder, and friend. Thanks again Andy!

Sorry about the delay on posting up dyno numbers, but I have crazy busy and the car has sat for the past few weeks.

I have not added C16 yet, but I did tune the car for E85 Pump Gas. Right now, E85 (106 Octane) is $2.18/gallon at the pump here in Texas, so it's a no-brainer.

As you can see at 25 PSI, the car made 629/490.

I'm decently happy, but will be upgrading probably to a GT42R, as I really want to break 700whp on pump gas.

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w129/r25558/riggse85pump-1.jpg

Also, took the car to be weighed, and I was pleasantly suprised.

With full interior minus a passenger seat, and 3/4 tank of gas, the car came out to 2890 lbs.

why not just add a gallon of 104 to every 5 of 93.

keep the current turbo.

You should be able to hit it at 27 psi with the RIGHT tuning.

I think 650 would be more enjoyable and faster with less lag.

Why not pay $2.18/gallon and fill up at the pump, with no time spent mixing gas, etc? I'm running straight 106 E85, where mixing 104 and 93 would equal what 98? Doesn't seem like a better option.

With the cam gears dialed in (not currently been touched), and 27-28 PSI, I think it's possible with a larger A/R.

750whp from 6k-8k will be a slower car than 700 whp with a powerband from 5-8k.

Just an update, the new Borg Warner S374 (74mm) turbo is being installed on the car tomorrow.

The 4" piping will be fabricated next week, and then the upgraded fuel system will be installed.

I'm hoping to break 900whp in my street car, and I'll be posting photos of the progress.

I was hoping this was going to be a bolt-on affair, with just new 4" piping needing to be fabricated......right....

The new turbo hit the valve covers, so Jason @Matchless Performance came to the rescue to modify the exhaust manifold.

The block looks so lonely without it's friend.

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w129/r25558/riggs240sx017.jpg

Starting the modification work on the manifold, basically changing the angle on the flange so the turbo sits flush.

I've handled it at 700whp, and the car actually hooked on MT ET Street Radials.

On regular tires, the car is downright useless. The only tire I will drive on the street with is the ET Street Radial, and it may not hold up to the task with the new turbo.

That tire is working for the Big HP Supra and Viper Guys, so I have to assume it will work. Time will tell....

Dyno Video Link:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7528002706290394196&hl=en

At 18 PSI (593whp), the car ran out of fuel, and we found the problem to be a dead Walbro Fuel Pump. We'll be going back this weekend to retune for 25 PSI, expecting around 750whp.

Then onto the C16, where we will shoot for 900whp.

Update:

Went back to the dyno this weekend with new fuel pumps, and ran into our next problem, maxing out the 1000cc injectors at 624whp/442tq.

1600cc injectors are being installed this week, and we'll head back to the dyno for round three, haha.

The E85 really requires big injectors, and I never imagined we would max out the fuel system this quickly. Im guessing we're going to end up with a Weldon Race pump, as the dual walbro's are really struggling to keep up.

Enjoy the Vid!

Getting rid of my pea shooter Weldon pump. It's rated at 1800 crank HP,flows 200 Gal/Hr at 50 psi. I have the flow sheet from Weldon and a set of replacement seals for it. ***$500 Final Price***

Even if you don't need this much flow, you should buy this pump just to get the cool sound it makes when running.

Update:

Wanted to welcome Deatsch Werks to the list of corporate sponsors on the project car.

We went back to the dyno this past weekend with a set of 1600cc DW Injectors, and they performed flawlessly. The car now has plenty of injector for the current setup.

With that being said, the day didn’t end up as we hoped. We maxed out the dual Walbro 255 lph fuel pumps @20 PSI on E85. The car made just over 650whp before we had to call it a day.

I made a call to my friends over at MagnaFuel this afternoon, and they suggested their street friendly, Inline Protuner Series Fuel Pumps. The particular model they suggested is MP-4303 rated at 2000HP in N/A Applications using gasoline. (good for around 1300 HP on E85).

What’s unique about their race pumps is they are E85 compatible, rebuildable, and they don’t require a fuel controller like the Weldon’s. (And various other brands of “race” pumps.) This is a significant cost savings, and makes this pump is fairly “bolt-on” affair in a car with an aftermarket fuel system already installed.

The new fuel pump will be installed in the next two weeks, and I will write a review for those that may be interested in our findings.

We knew three weeks ago the 1000cc injectors and dual walbros were not going to get us to our goal, but I wanted to see how far they could be pushed on the E85….as I know many on here are debating switching over in their own vehicles.

Here’s the latest dyno video, notice the fuel pressure gauge video at the end:

I want to start out by thanking the guys at Abel Racing in Midwest City, OK (Specifically Erwin, who goes by Efeezi on the various online forums.) You guys have been a pleasure to work with, and your knowledge of all things Nissan is amazing.

It's been six months since the 240SX encountered bearing damage, which led to a full motor rebuild.

This downtime gave me the opportunity to rethink the current engine configuration, etc. While I was happy with the power of the Borg Warner 74mm (1.10 A/R) turbo with 9" cover, the spool characteristics weren't ideal for a street car IMO, and I wanted something that could make similar power, while providing a larger powerband.

After consulting Borg Warner, they recommended their 72mm (.90 A/R) ETT Turbo with their new 10" Race Cover, which has been dyno proven to make up to 60whp over their standard 9" cover.

The motor was rebuilt with an N1 Crank, JE Pistons, and Eagle Rods. Head was left untouched from the previous setup, complete with Tomei Hardware and 260/260 Poncams.

The car now sports the new Tial 50mm Q BOV, which sounds amazing, to go along with the Tial 60mm wastegate, and I'll have some dyno videos to post this weekend, pending all goes as planned.

Here's some sneak peaks from what's to come. Forgive the dust, it's been tucked away in the corner of the shop for several months awaiting parts.

For somebody with cash in hand ;)

I've owned the car since college, 2001, and it's been a blast. But I'm ready to move on to the next project, and it's time to part with it...

Those canards are garbage, wheels aren't that attractive, rest of the car seems ok, a bit overdone but its not my opinion that counts. GLWS

Agreed on the canards, they were removed and trashed, bumper is being repainted as we speak...Supposed to pick it up this weekend, will post new pics.

28 hours away until the close of auction, I am willing to have the car retuned on 91 octane for anyone who doesn't have quick access to E85. (At my expense.)

I might be wrong.. but didn't the rb26dett come in the R34?
R32: RB20?
R33: RB25?
R34: RB36?

The RB26DETT came in all GTR's from 1989-2002 having 320-340hp range stock. The GTS-T Skylines from 1989 to 1994 came with RB20DET. From 1995 to 1998 the GTS-T came with a RB25DET S1/S2. The R34 GTS-T came with a NEO version of the RB25.
