best bang for your bukc HID would be to forget HID and put Cibies in.

HID bulbs in Halogen projectors is not "OPTIMAL" which is what you asked for. If you want the best lighting, get HID Projectors, like I said.

erm really new to HID lighting , what do you mean by optimal? as in brightness etc?
thanks a lot

Meaning the beam pattern on the oem kouki headlights are not made for hid's and doesnt disperse the light enough. Best way is like everyone said, retrofit HID projectors, but it doesnt sound like thats within your budget.

$180 for HID of any design is going to be shit. At a minimum I wouldn't pay less than $300 for a set, and that would be for an enemy. Spend the money on a quality part or replace parts every year for the rest of your life.

Can I just save you many posts and much flaming?
You have a question.
First step: Figure out what the hell you're doing with your car and how serious you are about this. If it's auy track car, there is no such thing as bang for the buck. If it's driven to the grocery store every week, buy a different car. Figure out where you are in between.
Second step: Search google to learn about the topic (i.e. what is a coilover)
Third step: search zilvia to learn about specific options
Fourth step: PM owners of the options to ask for personal experiences
Fifth Step: walk away and think about whether you really want or need it. impulse buys just lead to credit card hell.
Sixth step: search more, research the shop and ask yourself why you aren't shopping from A Spec or SPL (if you are indeed not going through them).
Seventh step: if you're totally stumped STILL, then post. If you do post, supply as much detail as possible including what you've already searched for and who you've already talked to

ebay shit :) works great, no issues yet. A friend of mine paid for some decent ones while in japan, got them back and they broke pretty quickly.
I know someone who bought some off of ebay for his bB and they were fine for a while, but after some time one of the bulbs would flash like every hour or so. Same guy bought some ebay stuff for his silvia headlights, never had a problem (had them longer than the bB HIDs), and the car has a new owner that is on this forum they should still be working (after about 3 years).
I have bought some from a GB on here, worked great, crashed and broke the bulb, got another kit on ebay, had it for over a year, no problems. I have some ballasts from a G35 now, havent decided if I will use them yet though.

You should. I haven't seen your products firsthand but I tend to frown on any company offering kits above 6000K. Anything past that is aimed solely at the car show circuit because the light output is too blue/purple for seeing anything except the front edge of the hood. You may have good ballasts/bulbs and I'll admit I didn't know you guys advertised on here, but that upper segment of the market isn't something I'd want a reputable company to be mixed in with. Quality products aimed at real enthusiasts looking for a safe, effective upgrade should be all that's offered by a company looking to corner the niche market.

There's nothing wrong with buying quality stuff cheap if you find a good deal, but looking for shitty stuff cheap is stupid.
You can get HID's for two reasons:
1. So you can have a new mod for your checklist to impress the other kids.
or
2. To improve your lighting.
If you want don't care about doing it right, then go ahead and get the cheapest possible one. Just don't lie to yourself and believe you're upgrading anything.
If you care about doing it right, then do your research, read the thread in the FAQ section and save your money till your sort this out. Don't be a dickhead faggot.

you guys think the german euro headlights for s14 zenki direct light better then the usdm plastic ones?
^ doesn't mater. both lense are not designed for HID.
for zenki; get a clear lense and retrofit projectors. Function over fashion.
kdashy, not bad for a drop in kit. I've seen both good and bad kits for people with halogen projector lights. It's all about the bulb design on these kits. On some, the bulbs sit too far in the projector; and some just sit correctly on the focal point of the projector.

kdashy: what kit is that and where did u get that from?

02-14-2007, 02:35 AM
I PMed him earlier today about his kit.
It's a Kaixen kit and he says the cutoff is "very good" on the left side so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic and it kinda spreads off on the right side which shouldn't matter as much...

I might do the final konexxion or supermade lenses on a zenki and black them out like ss14 did with his, thats a bad ass write up and I intend to follow it soon with hidplanet gear.

Light output and balance is much better in the xenon housing over the crappy OEM halogen. Spend the time and do the retrofit.

The spread is from the lens and cut off. Look more at all the colors and the light dissipation. There is a bright blue center then a dark area then a yellow outer ring. I wish I would have taken better pics before I ripped them out.
The HID light center sits more forward then the halogen bulb. Throwing off the parallax of the reflector. Throw in the crappy USDM lens and you're on the road to suckville.
Don't get me wrong. The light output is better than any Halogen. It's just that you have to learn to compensate for the weird color and intensity while driving and it gets annoying after time.

where did you guys put the ballast in the engine bay? (pictures would be great) and how did you secure them so that they don't vibrate as much?
S14DB
02-15-2007, 11:06 AM
I didn't like the mount in the engine bay with the H1 kit. So, I mounted the new ballasts on the crash bar under the headlight.
