i want a vented hood but i don't see any cheap options. fiberglass and carbon cost over $400. i bought some cheap vents from egay and they are the most stupid thing ever. the vents are closed, meaniing its a stick on vent. the only other option i see is the uras hood vent. i really like this one but the only bad part is its $200. i don't have that kinda money right now. anybody have any cheaper options? i know it probably doesn't get much cheaper than $200 for this:

good vented hoods have no cheap options but the one above.
you can do a homemade drop vent pos looking ghetto poor boy style
or cut a hole in your hood
but it looks really tacky and cheap
better to stick w/ the stock for now. life goes on

cut your hood so that it vents???
really vented hoods most serve a purpose for v mounted intercooler set ups
but the uras one is pimp and your going to have to cut your hood for that anyways so why not just ghetto it for now till you have the money for the uras one

actually life goes on with a new uras hood vent. all it takes is a little saving up and working a few more hours at the good old J.O.B. that's the spirit right?

no it doesn't NEED a vent. but it will help out. tubular turbo manifolds put out a lot of heat. do we all need turbo cars? no. do we all need baller status cars? no. you can commute perfectly and effieciently in a honda civic.
does anyone know anybody with the uras vent in stock?

I've heard of some people cutting slits and bending louvers with pliers. This can look good if you take a lot of time and care, and touch up the painting afterwards. This isn't a good way to make the huge vents in that picture, just smaller louvers.
Also, you may want to check with any local body shops that work on customized cars, especially old school hot rods - some of them may have the equipment to punch vents in the hood. Again, this isn't going to get you the same size vents as the ones in those pictures, but they will function.

in order to mold the uras vent to stock hood and make keep it functional you'll need to cut away a portion of the underhood skeleton below the vent.
the guys that i've known that have had the vent molded never added any additional bracing where the skeleton was cut... so the seam that joins the vent and the hood will crack eventually due to flexing... just something to keep in mind if you decide to mold it in.

i did the cheap ghetto way using that writeup on nico since my hood was junk anyway (different color than the rest of the car and the frame was already seperated).
chop hole, bend down. brown looking part is the "black" spraypaint i had lying around. lined the cut edges with electrical tape so i wouldn't cut myself. notice that the near side isn't bent down as much? i had to do that so it wouldn't cut the upper rad hose. also ziptied a piece of foam to rad hose to protect it.

standing back here you can feel tons of air coming out when it's running.
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/5946/hood3sj9.jpg
pulled the edge in front of the vent up with pliers cause the internet told me it might do something.

shoulda cut it back a little farther and chopped some more frame out but whatever, i'll buy a vented fg hood in a couple months .
it cost nothing, it looks like shit, and it didn't noticeably affect water temps. actually made the hood more stable though, it doesn't flop around when driving down the freeway anymore.

you dont want to spend 400 for a fb or cf hood which is pretty cheap for cf/frp.. then even 200 for the uras vent is too much?
i dont see any other option.. unless you want to raise your hood with washers where the hood hinges are and let it vent out that way (there is a writeup on it somewhere here or fa) or cut it..
imo i agree with you also.. the uras vent is somewhat expensive for what it is.. but to be helpful.. you can always look up the sites of knock off body kit manufacturers like import fan or race on usa. they usually have all kinds of doodads.. like different types of vents you can add on to your hood including a uras knockoff type for cheaper..
for me.. i like the uras style vent.. but i think that only looks good on cars with popups. but i also like to have a cf hood.. i see no other alternative than dmax which is like the best of both worlds for what im looking for.. unless someone starts producing a cf hood like that which cost cheaper.. i hate the VIS non oem hoods.. and ''invader'' v-vent just doesnt cut it.. looks too ugly.
edit: dousan with the quickness reply and bust out with dmax.. same idea

raceon has that uras style vent. just rivet and/or mold like the uras one. never bought any of that raceon shit so i cant comment on quality. and its not much cheaper than URAS, so i would personally wait and save for the URAS. well here is the link, its a option.

i meant does have anybody have in there hands, in stock, in there shop or warehouse or something. not how to put it on. it looks like jspec has it. is the under view of the jspec "type N" vent and the uras the same? i think i'm gonna get the one from jspec b/c it looks like they have it in stock
p.s. i do have pop-ups, so it will look good

i don't think i would wanna trust buying that from raceonusa. it looks good in the pics but when you actually receive the item it looks and fits like crap. and i'm sure the jic car that they have in there pics doesn't have the raceonusa

Actually with the vents, raceon shit fits fine, its flat and straight. I have one, but I don't know if I will put it on or not. Its a vent hard to fuck up.

Lifting the hood at the rear is more likely to draw in air than let it out, if you lift it enough to do anything. There's a high pressure spot at the base of the windshield. You'll sometimes see domestic drag cars running cowl hoods with the raised section set up so it channels air into the intake (and see a lot of them with non-functional cowl hoods just to show off...).

well if your doing this for the track, cause im doubting you build alot of heat daily driving (unless you do buildup alot of heat for some reason on the street) you could just check with tech and make sure its ok to take off your hood like we do in the summer here. just make sure your goods wont fly away. this is of course too if your not worried with air flow slowing you down if you do like time trials...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/217zenki/KellyJo051.jpg
The hood sits to far back ... Only 3 bolts will connect it to the hindges . One is way off where u can barely c it through the bolt hole. Also the underside on the back side of the last vent there is a crossmember in the hood framing. It hits the highest coilover bolt.. I had to notch it out so the hood would close some what flushed...
This is a CHaser hood from Ebay.. It was a quick fix since I ran low on cash trying to finish my kouki conversion in time for the DD's coming up..
You get what u pay for and I normally dont try to cut corners in fear of shit like this.. If you really want a multi vent I would just get the insert and cut the hood they can look good if you take your time and do it right .. Or save some$ and get the real deal.

To be honest, this is the hood that has the most pushed forward vent... and still, only the furthest forward vent is functional. the latter two were blocked off..

What kind of hood would be good for a FMIC setup? I mean basically to pull some air through the FMIC and radiator and/or possibly a vent on the side near the air filter or top-mount turbo for cooling?
Maybe something like this?
