So I have a 1992 hatch and changed my brakes this past week. Fronts went on sweet...no problems. Now about the rear. These rotors (brembo) and pads went on so tight that when I went to pull off after changing them I tore the rotor in half (without even hitting the brakes)..took the disc right off the base. They really didn't seem to be that tight when I put them on. I've never heard of this happening...ever. Long story short my knuckles are bent so when I snugged the caliper assembly down it pinched REALLY hard....has this happened to anyone else?? I've never hit anything while sliding (person before me may have...never curbed....car is from ohio with a bit of rust...not too much though...nothing not fixable. Any ideas how they bent?

wtf?
i demand pictures.
i've used brembo blanks for many years without problems. my only similar experience happened when a buddy halfassed the rears and squeezed the pads/rotors on without fully reseating the piston. rear brakes dragged when i drove it around and i had to redo the install myself.

Sucks. I would throw them at whoever sold em to me, then demand a refund.

I'll take pics ASAP and get them on here. I reset the pistons all the way back. I didn't take any pics while they were on the car but I still have the rotor that I tore...I got the drilled ones. Are the drilled any thicker than the blanks?...I mean...The pads were pinching the top of the rotor cuz the caliper bracket pins were frozen and the knuckle is bent.

are you referring to the caliper sliding pins?

Yeah. On one side both pins were frozen and on the side that the rotor tore only one pin was frozen. I just took some pics but my comp is being gay. I'll have them on here tonight.
Here they are fellas.

defective maybe?
sorry for the sucky camera...and light. Remember..this happened without me pressing the brakes and driving from the garage to the street and then back.

didn't you say your knuckle snapped? thats what we need to see

Nah. Knuckle is bent. You can't see it (no need for a pic). But once all the bolts get tightened down uneven pressure is applied to the rotor(see wear marks above). The holes line up with little persuasion. I'm alomost 100% sure its the knuckle. I got some awesome condition calipers and brackets thinking my originals were the things bent...same problem with the new stuff. I think the area on the knuckle where the top bolt of the caliper bracket bolts in is bent slightly towards the inside of the car. Like the person before me slid into a curb or something. I don't know.

Considering Brembo doesn't make rears for our cars. Who are they made by?

Brembo doesn't make 'em? They came in the bright red Brembo box...
He got them from Heavy Throttle. Says Brembo on the site, came in a Brembo box. I'm pretty sure they're Brembo's.

?
brembo makes both standard blank rears and crossdrilled rears for our cars.

thank you. There is no size difference is there?...drilled are just blanks with holes.....right?

Sorry, Brembo bought another brake manufacturer and now puts their rotors in brembo boxes.

that sucks but i guess its not terribly surprising.
i find it interesting tirerack has this to say about x-drilled "high performance" brembo rotors.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Slotted, drilled or dimpled rotors offered as OEM replacements should not be considered appropriate for high-speed track use.
reputable companies selling useless (or in this case, defective) parts. nice.

upon re-reading the whole thread it seems like he hit something and bent his knuckle/caliper and then radial cracked the rotor hat. The problem is that his caliper is out of alignment not the quality of the rotors. Need a new knuckle and caliper on that side.

Thanks man. I haven't hit anything but there is body damage on that side above the gas door (same side I tore the rotor) from the owner before me. It wasn't drifted (female owned judging by items I found after removing the back seat) so I can't imagine what she backed into to bend a knuckle but whatever. I found a nice set of knuckles at a local junk yard. I already threw new calipers on both sides and it fixed one side so the problem has to be the knuckle. I appreciate the input.
