I was wondering the other day what would happen if I was caught by the cops with a sr20det in my car or any other japenese/off-road only engine in the USA what would the consequences be? Would they take my car or suspend my license or a big fine or something. I was just wondering

If you are asking these questions the SR isn't for you. Someone told me that a cop cannot loook under your hood w/o a search warrant, so the only person that will be able to look would be the people at emissions. I don't really know much about emissions but there is a visual test and a sniffer test (don't know correct name). I don't really get the visual test, never gone for one, but everyone says it fails the visual. So you have to pay someone off or have some sort of hook up. There is no way a cop can tell if you have an illegal engine or not, he can only see an FMIC, and exhaust. If the exhaust is too loud they might be jerk offs and give youa fix it ticker. I am nto sure about the legalities of having an aftermarket FMIC on a car.
If the legality of an SR bothers you don't get it, it's illegal but cops wouldn't be able to tell the diference, unless they know about cars, or have a picture of an engine bay.

Im not worried about it I was just wondering what would happen if you were to get caught with one. Doesnt matter how they catch it just what could they do? Since thier are so many japenese engines in the US i know its hard to get caught with one. You probablly have to tell them its illegal to get caught but does anyone know what would happen. Its just a thought I was wondering.

I've never heard of anyone getting caught before, so I have no idea what would happen. There are quite a few SRs in the US at this point, as well as other engines that are not legal. If you do get one, expect to pay hefty hefty fees to get it through your emmissions tests though.
