95 240sx at freeway speed.

i'm new to the whole 'sports car' thing, i'm used to driving civic's and what not.

anyway, i hopped on the freeway with my 240 the other night and was pretty surprised with the amount of noise and, how much i could "feel" the road. which was a lot. steering and everything were great.

so i guess i'm curious if these types of cars are supposed to be like that. the part of the freeway i was at wasnt the best paved in the world, but it was pretty bouncy, more than i would have thought.

the reason i ask is that i'm driving to anaheim (from seattle, like 1100 miles) and dont wanna wind up with hemmherroids shooting out of my ass.

Many S13 owners put your seats in to increase comfort.
You should be fine, enjoy your car.

i drove my s13 from arkansas back to pennsylvania. it didn't suck too much. i even have a loud ass muffler and was on shock/spring combo.

Drove a stock suspension s13 hatch from LA to southern WI (w/o a clutch). Pretty comfortable. No fatigue really. Returned to LA with lowing springs and stock shocks with 3 people on board. A bit cramped but the ride was ok. The haul from Seattle should not a big deal. If you had coil-overs, they might be a bit of a jolt though.

No, they're not supposed to feel like that. But you have to remember these cars are pretty old, yours is 12 years old already. Your suspension might be blown, and all the bushings are worn. When I first got my car the front stabalizer link was damaged and the the control arm bushings where completely rotted out. I changed those and that helped alot on the feel. Also, if yours is a base model, you dont have a rear sway bar, which I find tends to help in the feel too. Also like someone mentioned, your tires has a lot to do with noise aswell.

i didnt think my post needed much more explanation but i guess it did, so i'm sorry if you thought i was trying to convey exactly how i thought and felt at that moment which obviously is impossible. mostly i thought the question i asked was "is there that much of a difference between driving a car like the 240 and driving a good ol civic down a freeway". its cool though.

yes it is totally stock, i haven't touched it yet. i took it out on the freeway a lot more tonight and ive pretty much realized that particular part of I-5 was in not too great of shape. im just totally new to this kind of car so i dont really know what to expect. thanks for the answers!

I was goign to try to reply to this post but theres no way to give you an example of how things feel. Ok, to be blunt i think my s14 is more uncomfortable than my friends old fixed up 99 civic. though passenger has a totally different feeling than the driver.

After a few weeks of that, I memorized which lanes are screwed up and which ones aren't, but once you get used to the ride you won't even notice the difference anymore, passengers probably will though. I love the ride and the feel, and would never trade it for that floating feeling you get with a civic.

Yeah, same here. Usually the lanes that dont get a lot of heavy semi-truck traffic are the less fucked paths.
Springs felt rough on the freeway back when I had them, but now with coilovers and a cag, it can be a chore to drive, especially when you have to try not to loose your lip on those bigass metal expansion joints south of the I-90/I5 interchange.

well the only stretch of I-5 i went down was the one around shoreline/northgate northbound, i headed south for awhile the other night down past the I-90 interchange and things were pretty reasonable. at least not beyond what i'd expect.

Frankly, I dont think you have anything to worry about. Stock suspension is pretty soft and sloppy; perfect for a comfortable ride.

Yeah, from northgate through the Udistrict both ways its pretty gnarly. I usually commute from Edmonds - Udistrict.

edmonds to u-district could be pretty bad, i wouldnt want to make that commute every day. my daily drive is to north seattle community college, a 10 minute drive at worst.

I used to drive that at least twice a week from u district to northgate on coilovers. It's not THAT bad. It does get loud as hell in your car though

yup... my Tanabe Sevens are 10/8... I remember stock suspension/rotted bushings like a cloudy uptopia of no-feedback steering and floating "guess-where-you'll-land" lane changes. Oh, and the basically non-padded race seat doesn't help the lower back :) I think the stock stuff (in good shape, meaning not blown) is a great compromise for drivability and feel for the lay-person, but I still put 300 miles a week on mine and love every bumpy minute of it.

so how is anaheim anyway? i read a lot here about stolen 240's in CA, so i mean this forum is pretty valuable for the weary california traveller. while there's nothing of any mechanical value in my car (like i said, stock SE) i dont plan on getting stuck down there with my thumb in my ass filling out police reports.

is chp pretty aggressive on the highway? its a long drive, am i going to be able to smash near the oregon border and in central ca or am i going to have to be looking over my shoulder the whole way down.
