View Full Version : Piggyback and injectors question...

So I'm currently trying to figure out future options for fuel management, and I know that most piggybacks, like the SAFC-2 and Emanage, can only handle "a maximum 50% larger main injector correction adjustment." That means (from what I gather) for my RB20DET w/ 270cc's, it'll only be able to correct an upgrade of up to 400-ishcc injector size, and the closer that I get to that number, the less reliable the tuning will be.
So my question is, if I turn up the fuel pressure to.. oh say... 3.5bar instead of the stock" 3bar, and use 370cc's (equation here (http://www.rceng.com/technical.htm)), so that the injectors are actually flowing like 430-ish cc, would the piggyback be able to handle it? I don't know if this is a dumb question or not... lol, I might just be overthinking, or um, underthinkng this...

It sounds like you have a fairly reasonable grasp on what you are trying to accomplish and as long as you understand the only thing the SAFC 2 actually does is modify the injector pulse sent to each fuel injector via the ECU by some factor or percentage rather, then theoretically what you have in mind will work.
So long as you are supplying the injectors or rather fuel rail with that correct pressure to raise your flow rate, the ECU will still make that original correction from the SAFC but more fuel will be allowed to enter the combustion chamber so you can squeeze more flow out of those injectores. Just make sure you have an aftermarket or OEM pump capable of handling the flow rate and pressure you plan on achieving...sounds like you are capable of making those calculations too.

get a walbro, install larger injectors, play around with safc, but make sure you're able to tell how rich/lean you are via something like a wideband

I already have a walboro (installed) and 370cc injectors (not yet installed) and I've already played around w/ my SAFC-2 on a dyno :) Running 11.5-12:1 so not too bad. I'm just going to be installing my SARD FPR soon, probably in conjunction w/ my injectors and a JGS resistor pack (waiting on), but was just wondering if my SAFC could take me turning up the fuel pressure since the projected flow'll be more than 50% stock. I'll dyno it again afterwards, see what happens.
Thanks though ;) I was just trying to make sure it was still tunable.
