...measure them?
(measure the rotor channels. 30mm channel=26mm rotor, 34mm channel=30mm rotor)

thanks kensreliable =) , tonnes of info i can dig in

other than checking like that , is there a better way to distinguish an genuine aluminum 300zx 30mm brakes?

am asking this cause im buying a car that is said to have 300zx front aluminum brakes and 300zx MC , if there is some sort of identification can be spotted without measuring hope someone can tell me.

thanks

How hard is the importnut method?
http://importnut.net/240pics/brake_upgrade/caliper/calipercompare06.jpg

Shows an easy way to tell aluminum from iron, and a ruler will tell you 26 from 30mm. Pull the brakes off and measure, all you need is a socket and ratchet, and maybe open ended wrenches to take off the line. It's not that bad.

You can also ask the guy what year the calipers are.

Those magnets are confusing.

Especially for someone that doesn't even want to use a ruler =P

apparently there are aluminum 26mm AND 30mm from that site, according to asad, and there's the 30mm iron, so the magnet method may not work,

best way is to bring out a ruler, tape measure, string, something to measure as suggested

well i guess i have to do that , just not so fun to check it until that state in blistering snowing weather =\. thought there is a faster way to check it out =)

but still appreciate the input guys =)

appreciate it man rndfactory , nice website..........know where to get my manual engine when i need to swap ;)

ok after knowing how to identify the brakes , what about checking if the conversion was done right and no problem with it at all? any certain driving way to determine that if the calipers and MC are worn off badly or are still in good condition?

look for leaks, and step on the pedal. if the brakes work and nothing leaks, there's no reason to think it wasn't done right. brake swaps aren't hard.

does it really matter if the calipers are 26 or 30mm (aside from buying new rotors in the future)? are you not going to buy the car either way?

26mm and 30mm brakes cost pretty much the same. and they work pretty much the same.
