hello

i just want to clarify this and not seem like an ass.

a lot of people spell "a lot" without a space (alot)... but it has a space (a lot) :bigok:

Through - Thru
Probably - Prolly
Anyway - ne way
You - U
Want to - Wanna
Tonight - Tonite
Don't Know - Dunno
And yes: A lot - Alot

I think I made my point... spelling and grammer get butchered on the net.
Live with it.

Technically, through is the more correct of the two, and thus your example of Thru - Through should be flipped around.

It's not about spelling on the net but how things are said in conversation.

Just take the time to spell right. It looks so much better.

i'll agree whilst grammer is very important, i think people type that way because thats how they pronounciate the word, or phrase. like your example of a lot...most people dont say it how it should be said as a...lot, because it should have an A sound. most people say alot as one word with the a sound as in all, plus most people are lazy....lol

To read, or type?

Probably happens when people try coincide speech/thought with typing I guess. I misspell words a lot but I'm assuming it's because English isn't my first language. I just read my posts before hitting 'enter' and that usually does the trick.
I think part of the problem is that many schools don't offer typing classes anymore. When I was in High School they were mandatory.

i see your point..but in posts where i see people type 'alot' they don't "butcher" the spelling of those words in your example. i was just saying that it's a common error. so...FA-Q!

Does it really matter? You know what we're talking about.

this thread fails, why does it matter how people spell online?

While I do agree that proper grammer needs to be used more often while typing online, I don't feel alot and a lot is that big of a deal. What does annoy me is when people fill their entire post with shortened/slang words.

Most importantly, I don't feel this required it's own thread. :lockd:
