so as my project is starting to approach a state where it might actually run sometime soon, i just finished building the engine, and i get the car back from the roll cage shop tomorrow. im really considering how im going to actually get this engine to run. initially i had wanted to go the bikirom route, but i just contacted him, and he said he might have more built in about 3 months, plus being how few systems he has out there, and how hard he is to get ahold of seems like customer service might be a difficult thing if i run into a problem.
so my question is what is the best way i can tune this. i do everything myself, and me and a few guys in my shop have a fair ammount of experience tunning. also the budget for this project is running dangerously thin so i really dont have 1500 to dump into a system.
also ive looked at the megasquirt option but im really turned off by the 12x12 map limitation.
thanks for your advice guys

12x12 is more than enough, its all based on the person tuning. You can have a 30x30 map and if the person isnt experienced than it doesnt matter how large the map is it'll be "Garbage In, Garbage Out". Plus with megasquirt you can expand a section or create a dual table if you like.
Anyways what year is the SR20DE? Are their factory features you'd like to keep?

the sr must be from between 1994-1996 cause i have an obd1 ecu and i know its an s14 so those are the only time line options im left with.
what do you mean by expand a section in megasquirt?
also from my reading i had just heard in many different places that 12x12 wasnt enough for turbo cars.

also this is a fully prepd drift car so no factory features are needed. currently im building a ground up car wiring harness just so i can retain function of lights.

if thats the case than pretty much any stand alone system will work, it'll come down to budget. Haltec, Motec, FAST, Autronics, Megasquirt are all awesome setups each have their strong and weak points.
12x12 maps is plenty enough for turbo, like I said it's all dependant on the tuner. If 12x12 maps wasnt enough for turbocharged applications than my car would suck and the thousand of people around the world driving Turbocharged Megasquirt vehicles, their even those crazy ones that are doing things just to prove a point and boosting all the way 40psi. Also this guy shows its no problem.

twin turbo V8 pumping over 1000+whp and torque seems like its more than capable for anyone ;) but either way pick your poison of choice and they all should work perfectly for you, just dont go the SAFC route, thats like putting a band-aid on open heart surgery.

what I meant about expanding a section is anywhere on the 12x12 map you can target a trouble area and edit that area its kind of like adding smaller maps in that area.

A bit more information on what MegasquirtCA said:
Megasquirt's VE table maps let you move the RPM and MAP range for the grid. For example, you might start by setting the RPM bins to 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500, and 6000 if you had an engine that didn't exactly like to rev. (Maybe it's a 5.0 Mustang here. I've picked these numbers because they're evenly spaced and the math is nice and simple.)
Now, suppose this engine runs pretty smoothly in most of its range, and the tables don't look lumpy or anything on the 3D map. But suppose the engine seems to have some rough spots between 2500 and 3500 RPM.
You can change the map so the RPM values at the bottom of the scale are now 500, 1250, 2000, 2500, 2750, 3000, 3250, 3500, 4000, 4750, 5500, and 6000. This will put more resolution where you need it, without having a major effect on the rest of the engine operation.
