I'm looking to buy a daily beater for around $2k. Amongst my top I'm thinking 94 maxima, 95 q45, and 93 volvos 960, 89 Volvo 740... at least those are the only decent ones I found on craig's list.

Any experience with any of these?? Reliability??? how long do they last??? problems? any other cars for around the price you might recomend??? im looking for sedans...hopefully with roomy back

95 q45, v8 300 hp i believe but i could be wrong and rwd. Cheap daily beater and parts are interchangeable. IMO

yea its rwd but gas might be an issue if its for a daily.

I'd go with the Q45. Nissan reliability and ease of finding parts, coddeling luxury and it's not a front driver.
I use a Mitsubishi Evo VIII and a 91 Supra as my dailys, and surprisingly the supra makes a much better daily. I plan on selling my Evo and getting a Jaguar XK8 though....:naughtyd:

Volvo's are reliable?... I just thought they wouldnt break down no matter what you did to them but parts were expensive as hell and they were kinda easy to work but the price for parts which is why so many of them have problems all the time and why a bunch of cheap ass poor liberals drive them. I'm scared of European cars. Also Volvo's are tanks and get shitty gas mileage.

The Maxima comes with an award winning engine for like 10 years on the list? I have a friend who had one and drove like shit yet still managed 30mpg. They arent to dead in the water either.

I would go q45 out of those options. I <3 my Honda Fit

Honda Civic daily is the best. It runs on 1 quart of oil. Gets good gas mileage. Drive it like a grandma and it lasts forever somehow.

Late 90's volvos had expesive electical parts would break randomly and be relativly expensive to buy the replacement parts.

The years he was looking at are tanks. They run forever. I dunno why you think they get bad MPG.-

kenshinS14sks
02-02-2007, 11:48 AM
yes, they ARE tanks, i've had quite a few friends get into accidents with them and they came out worse than the car did o_O don't know if that's a good thing but...

how are they in terms of maintenance?? cheap/expensive? are they reliable in terms of mechanica parts?

how about the jaggy? i heard mixed stories... couple peeps that i know that had it ran fine without problems...but i hear horror stories about electrical this and electrical that... im just considering cuz it's such a good price and the owner is like 70+ so it was maintained decently by nice old lady =)

I've got an 83 Volvo 245 Turbo Wagon, Its got 370k on the clock and still runs strong. It fires up on the first crank even in these cold ass Chicago winters. The only thing I had to replace was the alternator and the waterpump so far. Alternator was like $10 at the junkyard, waterpump was like $25 @ autozone. Also junkyards are filled with these cars and parts are really cheap.

I say get the Volvo, you won't regret it

98-01 4cyl Camry is the best car you can buy for reliability and ease of maintenance. My idiot brother could change every accessory on the 2.2L with time to spare, which he'd never have to do anyway due to it's durability. A little out of your price range, but by far the best bet for a long lasting car. Even a base model comes equipped with most options.

I'd stay away from the Q, gas costs and the light work it needs far outweigh it's 'daily' choice. Plus you'll at least want to to drop it on 19s, foregoing the money you'd save by driving it in the first place, because they look like shit in stock trim.

kenshinS14sks
02-02-2007, 01:21 PM
hmmmmmmm... that's what my thoughts were on the Q... would wanna put some rims with decent offset to make it look ok...but how bad would the gas be???

i would love the camry if i could afford it...but not worth the money imo

the volvos were my first choice until a friend was like no no no... don't don't don't... but now im leaning towards them again. esp the 89 740 turbo cuz its $1100... but it has like 200k. hmmmmmm dilemmas dilemmas...

dude stay away from jags my dad sold those back in the day, and he says the electrical systems are shit. the service bays were full with jags just with electrical problems. i say go with a Q45 it doesnt get the best mpg but its rwd and close to 300hp. if you want a cheap car with good mpg get a camry.

If you want a "daily driver" do NOT buy an older Jaguar.

The FE Camry FTW1!! Lasts forever and the motor shares a bunch of parts with other motors so parts are cheap. The ES300 is the Camry chassis and engine with more stuff if you want luxo.

Lots of Sr's for the car to play with.. whether it be a VVL or a DET they are extremely reliable!

p10's are wide and p11's are tall.... but the p11's look HAWT.

Im trying to get one in fact :)

I have a 99 Maxima as a daily and for that job its great. Its an auto and i still get around 26MPG city/hwy combined. You can put a ton of people/crap in it compared to a 240 and the sell for cheap. Not to mention the motors just won't die.

hey slip, how much are you spending on maintenance??? i talked to my mech, and he says that it's an arm and a leg... and something about a leak that happens easily somewhere :(

he suggests an accord or civic http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/car/270586298.html
this one looks pretty good...talked to owner, sounds pretty decent

couldn't find any decent g20's and the only one i found was crap...with windows that did not roll down...and all the cars were bull except a '90 q45 with newer engine swap which was really nice... but the maintenance price killed me... and the maxima had idle issues ... not bad but still makes me weary with no working radio and small rust spot on driver door

Q45s from what Ive gathered from talking to various owners- They last quite a while, like 200K miles is average? not many problems, but as a daily driver if you drive a lot its going to consume a lot of gas, they get like 23 HWY or something? They do have nice pickup though for a car its size.

Maxima- buddy of mine has one as a beater, runs fine, very little problems, probly has around 150K miles on it. hes satisfied.

Im not going ot pretend I know anything about the other cars though.
If it were me id pick the Q45 cuz id VIP that shit out
