I'm wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I am changing out my TPS but due to removal, the FSM recommends you realign the new TPS to the .05v +/- .02v position so that the sensor will operate properly. The step I'm having trouble with is the warming up the car part.

I don't see how this is possible since you have to have the intake system completely removed to get to it and there's absolutely no room to tighten down the TPS bolts once you eventually DO get it in the right position with all that crap in the way. So I'm wondering if I you can adjust the TPS position with the throttle body in hand, rather than on the car. I've tried it once already with it on the car and I just can't reach the bolts to tighten it down.

The voltage readings SHOULD be the same with the throttle body on or off the car correct?

much thanks.

What engine is this for?

you can do it on or off the car, as long as the tps is mounted on the throttle body. It sounds like you're putting it on a KA. There's one bolt that holds it, and one bolt you loosen to adjust.

i don't remember, but i think you can reach it either ka or sr... don't remember ever having to remove anything else...

didn't have fsm at the time for ka, but 240sx.org faq helped me out for ka...

There's no need to pull the intake to adjust the TPS. None.

When I changed mine I could not reach the bolts while it was on the TB, i had to remove the TB and adjust there with the switch on and it workd well.

I have a KADE sorry.

Let me elaborate, I meant the intake piping that feeds the throttle body. Also I'm replacing my old one with a new one, so I need to adjust it once I get it on the throttle body.

Also I was wondering, since I did a auto/manual swap, and I originally had the auto TPS, do I need to replace it with another auto TPS? I have since switched to a manual ECU, but I didn't want to create any probs just in case. I did end up buying an auto one, but really I'm ust curious if anyone's addressed this before. I'm thinking it won't matter, but better to get the auto TPS so as to not have a loose connector in the engine bay.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys, I'm going to change it right now!

Later.

doesn't mater what tps you use. the harness you have is for an auto, it should have the same plug for manual. You'll just have an extra plug hanging around that area.

Right, that's the throttle position switch. That's what I don't want....some extra plug just hanging around, I have enough of those.

Well, I did the work last night, had some really strange results at first with my idle. I set the TPS at .5v with it off the car, but once I got it bolted up and warmed up, the reading jumped to .6v which is still within tolerence so I'm good. Also the TPS resistance reading was about 1.80 ohms (closed throttle) and about 10.9 ohms (WOT) wierd. I know the FSM says "approximate" but I was hoping for closer readings. I'm sure if I had re-adjusted the TPS position to .5v I could get it closer but nah, I don't wanna pull it apart again.

I had some wierd idle issues, really high at first, then on 1st road test, when I would let off and shift to neutral the car would almost die! Got it back to the garage and re-checked the hoses....all good except the vaccum line plugged into the T/B! The one I just replaced last time I pulled the T/B apart! I had some extra line so I put a new piece in and idle problems solved. :)

I've also noticed a slight misfire at idle, never noticed it until I got my exhaust. Damn thing is so loud that I can hear every bit of exhaust going through it! A blessing in disguise. I gotta buy a timing light and recheck my timing, but I'm wondering if my MSD could be causing that....?.

So, overall my acceleration issues with stumbling seems to be fixed......up to 4500 rpms. After that it starts to bog a little bit but I'm waiting for my new walbro replacement before I try other routes. I'm pretty sure my fuel pump is as tired as a 3 legged dog in the 100 meter dash. So we'll see how it goes.

Thanks guys for your help really makes it easier to trust my instincts when you guys are backing me up.

Peace.
