I just ate at the Original Pantry Cafe in Downtown LA the other weekend. Not really extraordinary but not bad. Used to eat there at lof in the college days.
Mel's Diner near Hollywood/Highland is good after a night of club / party action on the west side.
Canter's on the west side (Miracle Mile area on Fairfax) is pretty good too.
And there's Jerry's Famous Deli at a bunch of locations too.

Yeah try Mel's on Sunset by la cienaga, usually lots of people on the weekend. Roscoe's Chicken & Waffle's is bomb when you're starved. Original is on Hollywood off the 101. Another is on Pico and La Brea (Ghetto!). There's agood Ramen/Sushi house on Santa Monica and Sawtelle off the 405. I think they're open 24 hrs. They're right next to a 7/11. I live the late night, but i'm usually hittin' up Wendy's or Ralph's!haha

There is no other way to put it, Their French dips are absolutely amazing. It's a must to try the pickled eggs if its your first time (They are surprisingly good).
The neighborhood is so so at night. The smell from the fish place behind is pretty bad and the occasional fight/argument across the street provides some decent entertainment.
