View Full Version : Leather Seats?

I know this question probably gets asked about a million times a month, but I was wondering what my seating options are for my base '92. Is there any way I could get leather seats in there, or am I going to have to spring for some sparcos? Basically I want something nice and not shitty like the stock seats. I'm looking for something low-key that will hug me when I decide to drive like a maniac but not make me look like a loser who put some expensive racing seats in his ride to look cool. Any advice is appreciated.

Well, I dont know about the S13 models, but I heard that the LE models have a leather seating option. So, you can maybe get that. But honestly, in my opinion, I think the cloth seats hold you in better than leather does. Leather makes me slip around. http://www.car-part.com And you can also try that site out, and see what you can find for your Nissan parts. PEACE, good luck.

I dunno what the S14 seats are like, but someone swapped S14 seats into the S13. graphikg is right about the leather, feels like your playing slip and slide or sumin. Get nice cloth seats. Racing seats are always good, but ricers kinda ruined em, so you might have to do some research and find some seats from a wrecked car and see if they fit. Then you can re-upholster them, it would be a great project.

Check out Sil80Girlie's project. She just re-upholstered her seats with Katzkin Leather....dove gray w/ red stitching....We just yanked out the KA today, so look for pics of the SR this weekend...if all goes well

This is coming from someone (me ) with a 1991 Fastback LE:
Don't get s13 leather seats! The seats themselves are not that comfortable, s14 seats are a world of difference, from what I have gathered. S13 leather is very crappy, I don't even think it is real leather. Your back gets all sweaty casue it does not breathe and your butt can't get traction on the hard turns
Here is what I am doing:
1. Throw away my shitty s13 leather seats up front and swap in s14 cloth seats. Leave in the back seats.
2. Take off the seats covers for all the seats and replace in your choice of nice, new leatehr seat covers from Katskinz or some cloth seat covers.
3. Enjoy

Thank ya Cost for the new covers was $600. My boyfriend and I put them on. It's pretty easy, just takes some patience and a little tugging. Fwiw, I think my seats are pretty comfy...alot better than they were before. The padding from the leather does make a difference.

K now let me ask you this.... where did you get the leather for the door insert
Sil80girlie
07-23-2002, 12:32 AM
That came with the seats as well....along with a piece for the glove box. I am not going to use the leather or vinyl for the door panels though, because I can't get all the wrinkles out. I tried a ton of times, using different kinds of spray adhesive and even contact cement....didn't work. It held well, but still looked pretty ghetto. There were little wrinkles along the edge that I couldn't get out. I am just leaving the doors all black for now. If you are gonna try, I'd suggest getting a bottle or two of goo gone

Did you try taking the insert off and having someone stitch the leather right on......
Sil80girlie
07-23-2002, 01:36 AM
nope, didn't try that. Thought about it, but didn't try it. I don't know if it would work though. The main cause of the wrinkles seemed to be the way that the panel is shaped. The only way I can think of is to make out one or two darts (cut out triangles) and then line it back up...you know what I mean? But there's no way to do that without having a seam. But, then again, you could make it look like there is supposed to be a seam there. I dunno, I have too many other things to worry about right now. Maybe I will try again later, after I recover from the sr swap...lol.
Not sure if this is any good to you but my appolster friend did the inserts without any problems at all-

Picture right down the bottom is probably the best one to give you an idea. They are cut to shape and held in with some type of evil, sticky glue.
Personally I like the leather seats, if its good quality leather then it wont get sticky, slippery and it cleans easily. And, out of some sense of vanity it makes the car look 4 times its price
Plus, it brightens up the otherwise dull interior.
But hey, I didnt drag the bloody thing all the way back from Japan to have the bog-standard, ghetto cloth in something that is essentially a "showing off" machine.
For a good set of seats the ones out of WRX's with a modified set of rails fit in fine. Never had a problem sliding around in the standard seats though, even when going ludicrous speed around something 'a bit' too fast

stock leather seats aren't all that bad. i dont know what you all are talking about, maybe because mine were kept in good condition throught the life of the car. what leather doesnt make your back sweat? my mom has a 45k acura and my back sweats when i drive it with no ac. *haters* on the pimp option!

this coming from a guy with a 93 fastback SE with leather... i have about the same opinion, but they do look damn nice i gotta say plus they're a lot more hard to find around here so that has to help for resale. these seats seem to get me much more sweaty than the "real" leather seats in my moms 96 Pathfinder and my 97 Explorer Limited--(these are perforated, maybe ford engineers do know something ). i've heard from several places that S13 240s have "leatherette" seating surfaces, can someone explain what that means? vinyl maybe? whatever the case i plan on swapping S14 seats once i'm done with performance mods...
