View Full Version : Anyone with Power Folding Mirrors
I have the power folding mirrors on my S14, and when I installed a new switch, the wires got gounded and now they won't work. The mirror glass moves, but they will not fold in. I wonder if the mirrors have some kind of built-in fuse, which could be busted? Please help!!!!

Hey Paco, I responded to you on FA but just in case anyone else here wants to know, I'm 95% sure there isn't an internal fuse in the mirrors so it's probably that you burnt out the motor the folds it in. If anyone needs to know how to make the RHD mirrors work on LHD, let me know because if they stay RHD, they are useless. I didn't figure this out until I got them on and couldn't see out of either mirror.

What do you mean u used the JDM base?
you just used the JDM folding mirror housing and put the stock mirrors in?
Hummm what did the set cost you? where did you order them from

The actual mirror just snaps in and I noticed that the JDM mirror looks a little convex compared to the others so those are easy to switch but, I thought the whole problem with fitting the whole thing to a LHD car instead of a RHD car WAS the base. On the base, facing towards the front of the car, the plastic is more angled to cause the passenger side mirror to face in more. When the driverside switches, the driver mirror faces to far in and the passenger mirror faces too far out. The top part of the mirror is asthetically identical, the base is what is opposite. If you followed me on that one, your pretty smart cause I can barely understand what I'm saying. Just look at your mirrors, where they hinge and you'll see the difference.

i've been trying to swap the guts out of the jdm mirror since day 1 i got it.. i mean you just simply can't switch the housing around.. since it doesn't work that way.. just let me know if either one of you guys did something to it to make it work..

Here is how I did and there might be other ways but this is mine.Remember, you basically have to sacrifice on set of mirrors to make them work.
1) You take the base from the USDM mirrors which is the triangular part that attaches to the door. There is a cover underneath it and three screws you have to remove. If there are electrical wires you have to remove the plastic connector on the end so you can pull them through the hole on the base (this is the hardest part).Don't forget to mark where the wires go in the connector. You do that on both sets of mirrors.
2)You'll have to mount the US bases to the JDM mirror but there is a little round tab that sticks up from the metal base which is supposed to mate to a small hole. This is where the 2 peices come together, and is supposed to hold everything solid while the mirror folds. The hole is now on the wrong side so you have to either drill a new hole (which I did) or file off the tab. The hole doesn't go all the way through so you kind of have to keep checking to see if it finally mounts flush.
3) Reassemble everything and it should look just like the stock mirrors did.
It looks like I might have over simplified this so feel free to ask for more details if you need to.

I paid $150 + $25 for shipping. I think they've gone for a bit less but I did get the switch with it.

Take the mirrors on your 240 and fold them in and thats what they look like. The only difference is now their power folding mirrors.
