Hello Zilvians,

Well here's what happened. I was on my way home this morning and I came to a local stop sign along my route back home. My Diff, Nismo 2-way, was locking as I was making the left turn at a low speed(5mph). Then all of a sudden I hear a clunking noise along with the sound of a bunch of metal pieces hitting against another metal. e.i. to clarify the sound- put a bunch of metal in a metal container and shake it violently. I'm sayin', "shit! what the fuck is that?:bash: "

I get out of the car, but it's too damn low to see anything under the car without lifting it up. I get back in the car put the car back into first gear, but as I rev it the sound returns and my car doesn't move. I had to push it to the opposite side of the street to park it. While pushing it though you can hear the sound. So I park my car and I have to walk a good 3 miles back to my house barefoot because my slippers broke on the walk home. :hammer:

I'm going to call Triple A to tow my car back to my house right now. But I don't know if it has something to do with the diff or whatever it is. I'm in need of help right now. I have to get this car moving again. It's my only means to transportation. So please HELP ME!!!:faint:

Thanks
-Ace

Well, first off get the car up in the air, even just the back wheels. Then check your driveshaft, half-shafts, and LSD. Turn the wheels to see if the sound is there. Pinpoint where the sound is coming from and replace the component.

sounds like your diff took a crap.

Sorry.

Well it's definitely coming from the rear. I just hope it's the drive shaft and not the diff...

We all hope it's just the driveshaft. But the way you described it, it could be the diff. Good luck.

If it is the diff, is there a way to fix or rebuild it?

All of the info posted is a good start, but theres somethings I'd like to know.
was this diff well maintained?
Who installed the diff?
what was the diff mainly used for?

If in fact is the diff get it out of the car open her up. Take a look for yourself and pictures for zilvia. Plus it will be easier to install what ever r200 diff you find.

I just got it towed back. I looked under the car when the tow truck dude was lifting it up, and saw that the left (driverside) axle came off. But that still doesn't verify that sound. Which leads me to a question. Would the diff crap out if one axle was bolted on and the other wasn't? I hope having that axle come loose didn't fuck up the Diff.

Now I have to get new bolts to put it back into place. I'm thinkin' I'll just replace all of the bolts on both sides. Then I'll see if it runs correctly. Anyways, thanks guys for your help. I appreciate it.:bigok:

Check to make sure it's not broken. Also the diff might be okay...since it will still spin, but it was just rotating the loose half-shaft thus making some crazy noises. Then again maybe it got caught up once the shaft broke while you were driving and busted up the internals. Get the shaft back together and drive it...let us know.

Get the car up in the air and see if the diff outputs to both shaft without binding atleast, before you drive.

I lost you when you said, if the diff outputs to both shafts without binding. What do you mean by that in noob terms?

Best picture I can get at the moment. You can see the axle came off and there's axle fluid everywhere. It's busted. I have to replace it tomorrow. I can't get an axle today.:-/

Yeah that shit was nasty. Looked like oil and really wet peanut butter put together. Hopefully I can get it fixed by the 3rd.

What i was saying is, if the diff locked up because of a fail part inside and you replace the axle you fixed nothing. Make sure your diff is ok. spin the drive shaft , wheel or input shaft to see if there is a problem. before you drive it

seems like it locked up as you were rolling, that's only a guess, but if i were you while waiting for the axle i'd drop the diff and see whats what

Yeah sounds good. I'll take a look at the diff before I put the axle on. Thanks dude.
