Why not just get a replacement? Probably could find one at a wrecking yard....

well, it's only 8 inches tall and 3 inches wide so I think It'd be easy to tuck away for a cleaner engine bay look.. the only downside I can think of is that I won't be able to get a visual on the amount of coolant in it.

every s13 i've seen in a junkyard had a cracked overflow resivor. a lot of them would crumble when you touch them. i guess what we think of it depends on where you mounted it and how clean the install was. the part itself looks ok. a shop that i forget has some s13 replacement tanks in polished aluminum that look really nice, but it seems that you've already got the part purchased so nevermind.

here you go.

That's a good point...

The reason that you cannot check the level of coolant in that bottle is that it isn't meant to be used as a resivoir, but as a catch can, if you are on the track they don't want any fluids leaking onto the surface and you must run the line to a tank. Buy it, use it, if you need to check the antifreeze be a man and pull the radiator cap off like the old days! If you want a direct replacement that looks cool check out www.heavythrottle.com and they have a bolt in replacement aluminum tank made by circuit sports that you can check the level in.

:stupid: Fighters Garage (http://www.fighters-garage.com/240sx.html)

In addition to what Kouki said about that tank just a being a catch can... The factory tank (and the FG tank, dunno about the CS tank) has the overflow "inlet" nipple at the bottom, so that the radiator can suck air-free fluid from the tank when it needs to (if it has been filled). It's a simple auto-bleeder.. The tank you have there, mounted "properly" with the inlet at the top and the drain at the bottom, will function fine as a catch tank but will fail if the radiator sucks coolant back (might get some air instead, might cause you an overheat at some point)

I fixed my oem tank with some clear aquarium silicone, just smear the stuff over the cracked/crumbly area and let it cure. It seals it back up and isn't that noticeable... But I've since changed over to fighters garage tank.

i paid 30 bucks for a decent overflow tank, after looking at like 15 different 240s in a junkyard or three...

That fighter garage design is kind of retarded. On hard left turns, coolant will leak out. They need to relocate the vent to the top like the stock one.

I have that exact same one on my car. You can use the lower outlet with the petcock as your inlet from the radiator, and run a hose out the top down under the car for overflow. True, you can't tell how much is inside it, but I filled mine up about 1/3 before installing, the petcock can be closed to prevent it draining out while installing. For $40 it's not bad, and a better option for S14 owners like me since there isn't a frilly custom overflow tank offered like there is for S13s. I do plan to upgrade to one with a sight window or an actual clear tube outside like a catch can, but most catch cans have both outlets on top, useless for this application.

the FG vent is at the top. Same as the stock location. It only $69 ... not a bad price.

can you guys freakin read? the circuit sports one was linked to three times and the fighters garage was mentioned twice, each like it was the first time it was brought up. i think we're done here, unless bluuuurr has any more questions.

being able to see the coolant level on the overflow tank is pretty pointless

as long as your car is not overheating you can run it empty

the only point of having coolant in there is so that if your car over heats and then cools down it wont suck in a gallon of air

This is one of the ones that self-bleeds right? I have been meaning to buy one, but I forgot the proper name, and thus can't find any info on them, hahahahaha. I remember there was a D1 labeled one that was pretty cheap on ebay, but I can't find them anymore. So yea, what is it called:aw:

^ that is a coolant overflow tank made by Fighters-Garage. It "bleeds" only because the inlet is on the bottom.

I think you may be thinking of a swirl tank/expansion tank? Try searching for the thread here titled, "sex drugs and swirl pots"

THATS IT, swirl pot, thanks, was having a major brain fart.
