View Full Version : Motor mounts dilemma...

So I've been searching around and reading up on mounts for my s13 with KA.
The car is going to be used for autocross, drift, and a fun occassional weekend car...
Choices that I've ran across:
1. Nismo... supposedly aren't what im looking for... not stiff enough for what I want. Do these move the engine back toward firewall, or just raise the engine back up an inch like the car was when it was manufactured?
2.DIY poly filled.... don't wanna go this route
3. Cusco... from what I've read, they offer the stiffness I need, but I read that they move the engine back some towards the firewall... which is bad enough as is. Would I be able to use these mounts with a diff. brand tranny mount?
Thanks in advance to anyone that lends some help!:2f2f:

nismo works great
i use it on my car
its perfect for my application (drift)
and making about 350rwhp
does the job
my friends who drive d1, d1sl and adm and ex-bmhai all use nismo too
shit works
the new doritne had the breakdown between differences and movement for iirc, nismo, stock, kazama uras andcusco? i forget

nismo; they're stiff enough.
have you considered jgs mounts?

ProjectNissan makes some mounts similar to the Kazama mounts, and they're only about $20 more than the Nismos.

Ive never heard of Jgs before... are they polyurethane compared to hard rubber that nismo is made from? DO the jgs move the motor foward or backward toward the firewall, or up and down? Any fitment issues?
I really appreciate the quick responses guys! Heres a pic of the car when i finished pulling the motor last week. She cost me 500 dollars :).. no rust, or frame damage, just a blown motor! My daily driver in the backround~!

solid rubber mounts.. cheap and effective
I was gonna do that.. i already got solid motor mounts

from what i've read, fitment is good and doesn't move the motor too much. maybe someone with these can chime in.

I use Cusco engine mounts and Uras/SPL trans mount.
They're baller as fuck, still rattles less than nismo KA and makes for a good feeling shifter.
lol at Hypertek sweating Charlie like a walk through the Sahara.

I would not do that. If you run a solid bolt all the way through a solid mount you will get so much vibration it will be worse than Cusco mounts which make your Dash vibrate and rattle.(yes I have seen that first hand) Yes, I do sell custom polyurethance mounts that are high durometer. They are stiffer than Nismo yet they do not transfer mass vibration. No they are not a stud run through a tube of Urethane like some idiots here wanted to do. They are poured high endurance urethane. They have been pull tested to 3000lbs plus. I do not have any at the moment though. I will possibly have a batch shortly.

Do it yourself mounts are the best bang for the buck by far. Super good. There is no reason to be against them. Unless your mounts are shot its almost stupid to waste the money on others. You can make them turn out as nice as any top brand mount.

its a toss up between the Syko and the JGS:loco:
I know the SYko doesnt move the motor toward the firewall like the cusco's do... but Im not sure about the Jgs.. havent heard much about the jgs at all actually.. did alot of searching and just found that ppl use them with spl tranny mounts and they like the combo?

Nothing really, I'm sure it works fine for alot of people, I'd rather just have a high quality stiffer mount.

I bought some urethane "blocks" a while back. Worst pruchase I have ever made. I couldn't sit in my car without my teeth rattling.
Damn vibration was so loud and violent I think I damaged my nutsack. I ran those in my car for about 5 minutes and swapped back in my stock ones until I got Nismos. I have to say they are way better for street driving. And since you plan on having this car as a weekend fun car you will want some ride-ability for you and your passengers. +1 for Dousan's suggestion, go NISMO. Very little vibration and much sitffer than stock mounts, definitely notice a difference when revving hard into turns.
