Please anyone who's had Experience With this turbo only.
How much power can I expect?
When does spool start?
When does full boost come on?
Since it's internal wastgate what is stock boost at?
How much PSI can I run with it max?
What are the differences between gt2540 & gt2530?
Can you rebuild it?
Are the oil and water lines same as stock t25?
How much should I expect to pay for it?
Also on the topic of fuel it looks like I have three options please give your opinions.
1, JWT Ecu pro: plug and play con: seems like the turnaround time is 5 weeks since there are backed up.
2, Super AFC Pro: Cheap Con: have no clue how to tune it since I've had no experience with it. Doesn't seem to be very accurate either.
3, Power FC Pro: Oh so cool!! Con: Once again would have no idea how to tune it and doubt any shops in my area have any experience either.
Please tell me what you think.
Thanks a million
Jed

HKS says up to 380 hp.
Spool should be pretty low...boost by about 3500
Don't know what stock boost is at. maybe .65 bar?
Max psi is up there...probably 20-25
2540 is for bigger numbers, but it has weird flow issues...read about it in SCC. 2530 would be better. 2835 is king.
Rebuild is expensive...shouldn't have to ever
Don't know about oil/water lines
Should cost about $1900
I know you wanted replies from "experienced" people...but no one had answered yet. I like the HKS turbos...but I don't know why you would get the 2540. It's a very mismatched turbo. Get the 2835 and watch your HP numbers hit ~400. so much fun. I'm going that route in the future. But I have many other mods before I'm ready for that. I think I'll just turn up the stock T25 in the meantime.

Thanks for the input. Turns out the 2540 I bought at a very good price. Couldn't turn it down. Either way from the research I've done and what you've said it looks like it'll be a good choice. I'd like to stay under 400 since I'm trying to push on stock internals.
Don't worry about the experience thing. I just don't want people replying with "I heard from a guy who said that his friends uncle's brother said that the turbo was good"

cool man. happy boosting! it's not like the turbo SUCKS. it's a HUGE upgrade from the stock hair dryer. it's just not the BEST for your money. but if you got a deal, then pimp it. that changes everything. a deal's a deal. like if someone said to me today "i have a t3/t4 that's freshly rebuilt...you can have it for $100". i'd snatch that up and start saving for a CTC mani. it's that simple. you do with what you've got. and you've got a sweet piece of equipment right there. i'm jealous

Thanks man. What are some of these flow issues that you talked about? Is that in the SCC where they review a bunch of turbo's? I'm sure I have that sucker laying around somewhere but since I'm at work I don't have access to em.
Can you elaborate?

basically, the turbine is very small for quick spool, and the compressor is very big for large flow. this creates "slip" as the turbine is trying to turn faster than the compressor. they showed flow and efficiency maps. not good. i'm just surprised that HKS makes this turbo. it would be like Turbonetics selling a T2/T4.
i can't find the article online...but it was just a few months back.

Have you seen the Blitz K3t 3070? The compressor housing dwarfes the turbine housing. Kinda of the same thing your talking about. I've never seen maps for the K3T but from what I've heard(sorry I know) the K3t is an extremly efficiant turbo.
HKS sells the gt2540 in a upgrade kit for s13/s14, it just strikes me as weird that they would sell such an eniffiecient(sp?) turbo as their main SR turbo upgrade.
First thing is to dig up all those SCC's and find that article.
Thanks for the info!

in any case, jed, it sounds like you're getting a good deal. also, this is a popular turbo in japan. whatever you decide to do, let us know how it works out and give your input and dyno numbers/charts. that way we can settle this story.

Sorry to ask so many questions.
Doing some more research I saw on the HKS forum that someone said that you would have to get a top mount manny for this turbo. As it will hit the steering knuckle.
I've been planning on using the stock mannifold as I don't want to mess with oil and temp lines for a top mount.

yeah, the conversion from RHD to LHD doesn't work well for turbo kits. it really sucks because blitz, greddy, and hks all have really nice SR turbo kits...and the prices are quite reasonable. but you basically have to get the manifolds reworked...and isn't that the point of an engineered turbo kit in the first place? it's not "bolt-on" anymore.

I'm really curious to find out. I barely have any clearence as it is between the rack and bottom of my stock T25.
Guess the only way to find out is to test fit it. I should be recieving the turbo in the next couple weeks. I'll inform eveyone what happens.
