Is it supost to be that Hard? It makes a breaking a noise and its hard as hell to twist.
DO NOT use any pliers... i made this mistake and ruined my shift knob. Just put it in 3rd gear and twist off. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Twist the bejesus outta it, it'll *CCCCRRRRRRAAAK* when you do it, but it won't break anything. I had a hard enough time due to sweaty palms from trying to twist the damned thing off.
Is there anyway to reduce the height of the shifter in the s13? I hate how high it is. I don't see how hacksawing the rest of my threaded shifter will reduce the height. Any ideas? Or am I looking at a short shifter?

Your looking at cutting if you want it shorter. Short shifters aren't any lower. They are short throw shifters, not shifters that aren't very tall. I kinda like the height anyway...it's easy to get to and you've got plenty of leverage for those high rpm shifts.
Edit: BTW, if you want to use pliers, just put a rag in between your shifter and the pliers so you don't rip/cut it.
