I'm looking thru some dvds at tenmaya today, and i pick up an initial d dvd with a nice 180 on the front. I reach to put it back, but i see another initial d dvd with a night kids 3rd gen hatch on it ...and then i remember watching option 99 (whatever number, it was the first round of D1 grand prix, a drifting competetion) and seeing a crx in the midst of all the fr contenders...so whats going on, is the definition of drifting changing even in japan?

basically what i figured out is its about uphill and downhill mtn racing, and the "fastest" way for some people is drifting the eg6 guy is ff so he uses some gumtape thing so the guy cant countersteer and the r32 guy uses grip style or something.. but its kinda cool to watch.

hmm I know I just laid down a hella good explanation of initial d like 2-3 weeks ago in a post similiar to this... I feel this gets explained now like every week since initial d is popping up everwhere. grrr
You could say initial d is about drifting cause that is takumi's(main person) method of driving.. But really you could also look at in as a boys progression from delievering tofu to becoming a professional race car driver(not that far in the series though). But really its just a japanesse mnt racing anime that to me is really fun to watch.

Did you see the CRX drift though (can it even drift? I prefer to say "slide")? I have not, I will probably go pick up the DVD at Nagasakiya now you mention it though...

And as Sil80 did put it, its just about touge racing. Any form, drift, grip, whatever. Read the later manga on it, there is DC2 Type R, EK9 Type R I forget any other FF cars... I think there could even be Suzuki Cappucino! I forget... Its been so long...

Let me just set something straight here:

Initial D is an anime and that's what it is intended to be. It is made for anime fans, and is not intended to be a substitute for Options videos. Yes, Initial D in many aspects is technically correct in technique and various other parts of drifting/driving in general.

Is there a Honda in the series...yes...it races in the series......once. Does that mean that the entire scene is changing because a Honda appears once in an anime and once in an Options video that you saw.....no.

actually honda appears twice on initial d...i heard from some people whove seen the 4th stage were project d team (takumi, ryosuke, keisuke) competes with the SSR Team which had an ek9 civic.

How? You can't keep it sideways for long.

so you mean to say civics are good only for 1/4 mile races? hmm, it may make sense since they dont feature civics on video option drifting competition.

Just found it rather disturbing...I mean 50% of the time you hear an exhaust, its from a silvia flying by...but everyonce in a while, you'll see some accord with chromies, body kit, altezzas and a LHD conversion, and you just want to smack the guy inside of it. I think its mostly imitation of
US "tuning" that I am afraid of.

I've heard tons of rumors about the 4th stage, but from what I know (and I'm a huge anime fan), it's not even in production yet. I would love for it to be because it's one of my favorites, but until I see it, no offense, I can't believe it.

If it is in there, that does not mean that the Honda is drifting, they did have grip drivers race Takumi.

from what i heard too that it is not officially out yet either but have been pirated. the 4th stage consist of battle scenes:

takumi(ae86) vs. tooru (miata mx-5)

keisuke(fd3s) vs. kawai ( skyline gtr-r34)

daiki (cvic ek9) vs. (not sure) either ryosuke or takumi

initial S14, i'm not too sure, but i believe that it will be:

daiki (EK9) vs. takumi (AE86)

have u also heard the other battles, i'm not too sure of these either:

nobuhiko (SXE-10 Altezza) vs. takumi (AE86)

takumi (AE86) vs. bunta (GD8 WRXsti)

i could be wrong about these, this is from what i heard and see on the net.

i can confirm that all other battles mentioned are true.. especially the wrx that bunta bought as addition to the family garage. but the altezza? hmm cant say im sure of that but its fun to know toyota is playing a lot of role in initial d.

another dvd that is out too is the "making of third stage"(the movie version with the mr2)

touru and kawai are from ssr team , the civic ek9 owned by daiki is an outside challenger.

you guys are morons. In 4th stage, Takumi meets a gang of straight Miata men and loses to all of them which means that they all get to pat him on the butt.

drifting for a civic (FWD) is called s-dragging.. another term for it is sliding...
s-dragging is done by pulling the e brake rapidly throughout a corner while keeping your right foot on the gas pedal.. sure you have to counter steer too..
but s-dragging will make your track time A LOT slower... FWD race car is made for grip
