I have had my 5-speed tranny swap for about a month now and it runs great. there's just two things I notice that concern me.
1) I get above average amount of vibration at low speeds and high rpms, kinda feels like it could be the driveshaft (unbalanced)
2) I also hear ALOT of gearing and whirring coming from the shifter. I have a B&M shifter and no rear tail dust shield. I thought that it was due to the lack of dampening due to the shifter.
Anyone else have these symptoms and am I just being paranoid? I'm wondering if the tranny could be on its way out, shifts pretty good though, for a used tranny.
Not sure if this belongs in Tech.....sorry
Thanks

I had a B&M in my Mustang and it whirred since the day I installed it but most importantly it shifted beautifully. As for the vibration id just be guessing, where is it vibrating? the whole car, steering wheel, shifter?

The vibration could be a failing guibo (rubber isolator) on the driveshaft..
The B&M does induce alot of excess noise, since it is more positive shifter, rather than the cushy stocker.. did this noise only start after the shifter swap?
Does the 'noise' only occur under driving conditions? Certain RPM? etc? Could be harmonic vibrations and such, as well, magnified by the positive shifter.

Well, the vibration happens more in the seat and basically the whole car. Kinda like the rpms are travelling through the entire car. I've got Nismo mounts and an upgraded exhaust that's pretty loud. I'm also thinking alot of the accelerating vibration is from the exhaust noise. Since I swapped the exhaust on when I did the tranny swap I can't tell what's vibrating more. Gotta get another stock exhaust back on it to test the theory. Workin on it.
Also through searching I found that they released a new version of the B&M recently....I don't have my box anymore but I'm wondering if I've got the old version. Mine doesn't vibrate and whirr only at high RPMs....the shifter vibration is all the time just worse at higher RPMs. Maybe the Nismo mount combined with the shifter causes this...
hmm.....

Okay I just looked up my ebay auction, bought it from Atlanticspeed, and the part number is 45088, which is the same as PDMs part number. So it should be the new model.
Also I swapped the shifter into the car when I did the tranny swap, so I never drove it before with a stock shifter.
I've been looking into getting an aluminum driveshaft to just do away with the old stock shaft. Maybe it's just worn out like you said.
Any other suggestions or do I pretty much have this covered?
