im about to swap out the 12v in my 89 for a dohc. there is a gas station a 1/2 mile a way that sells 114 octane. i figure a might as well have some fun with the 12v before i scrap it. basically what im asking, i dont care about melting the engine, but will it run fast for a bit, and is there a chance of damaging anything important that i may need when i through the 16v in it. thanks, matt

If anything, you may lose performance. Higher octane gas is harder to ignite. Reason high performance cars use it is it allows greater compression in the combustion chamber before detonation.
Go ahead and run it, you won't see a difference <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

i hope you have a lot of money because i JUST finished putting a '91 twin cam in my '89 and it was a b*tch...the a/c systems are different so dont expect to keep your '89 one and if your 91 engine has a power steering pump for a car with the HICAS you're going to need to get another one because it has 2 very high pressure outs in it for the rear wheels and my mechanic didnt feel safe plugging it up or looping it around and the wiring harness is completly different even under the dash so you're goign to have to pull out the dash to change out the harness.....if you're up to all of that then go right ahead!! but if not then you might want to reconsider cause you can probably get a ca18det shipped in ready to be dropped for the same amount of money it would cost you to buy, drop, and get a fully functioning ka
