Anyone remember that build that was done on VWVortex? It was a white S13 hatch (iirc) with gold wheels. The kid had it up on his lift and was taking pictures and such. I've done a shitload of searching and I can't find the damn thing.
Anyone have pictures?
Thanks.

Search for use PowerHouseMike on the vortex. Orig. thread was something like "how to build a car the right way...my nissan" or something like that.

worst cage ever made
^ yep, that car has a new owner now. The old engine is for sale on g-dimension's web site. The car is nicely done but the roll cage is lame. I call it "show cage" hah. it's a wannabe race car IMO. BTW, there's nothing really special about that car.

Nothing special, but I admire it for just how clean it is and the time spent on it. I've never been one for aggressive aero, wide wheels, slammed, etc.

Yup. After I saw this car in person and got a good look at the cage, I laughed my ass off that the guy managed to screw up so bad in designing the cage.

HCI August 2005 cover car. The cage is major weak sauce, but the rest of the car was done real well. Allot of us wish we could have taken the entire car apart to have it painted, and then replace all the fastners, lights and weatherstripping with brand new OEM.

I can't stop looking at it!
I don't know what it is exactly that I like so much about it but for me, it's perfect. There's a certain quality of cleanliness and factory freshness that I can just taste on that thing.

The build-up of his s13 is so meticulous but, cleanly done, it's no surprise he's a Volkswagen enthusiast.
His build thread is the one I compare all to.

So... whats so crappy about that cage design? Is it that the bars behind the seats don't hug the b-pillars?
HyperTek

i saw it.. my inpression of the cage was that the main hoop was really narrow compared to the rest and is too upfront next to the driver. Looking at another built s13 coupe in the same garage that had the main hoop wider and farther set back into thte chassis.
But for your average car I think its ok, it even has side bars which you cant see in the pics if i recall
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d195/s14dr1ft3r/GroundUp5.jpg
I think the harness bars might have been a lil too low for maximum safety

lol, if the roll cage top bars are lower then the seat,
you have a problem.

Hawt damn, i saw this on another forum. As someone else said, that car to me is perfect.
+1 for the work put into it.

The top bars are split in two. it's like a full cage was built and cut in half then bars were welded in so it can be bolted in. You have to see it in person to understand.
edit: you can kinda see it in this picture:

estevan owns all you fuckers.

01-22-2007, 12:40 PM
Yeah but Estevan didn't build the car by himself. Mike put in a lot of time himself. Estevan did a hell of a job on the wiring and gauges and such, but that car was not a 1-man-build by any means.

soo pretty... I've never really thought that gold rims look good on a white car, but this completely changed my mind...
