gear. WTF were you thinking?

My 5spd 240 hessitates to go into gear(mostly 3rd). Its not bad but it doesnt just glide in like i want. When i really get on it and shift fast/hard it will sometimes grind second or third. HOWEVER, when i double clutch it, it feels MUCH better.

I bled my clutch slave cylinder and that little metal box by it. The master and slave cylinders are both within a year old and NOT leaking. I replaced the tranny fluid with new dyno oil and just replaced that with Redline mt90. the redline makes it feel better, but it still feels MUCH better being double clutched.

WTF?? Any suggestions?

sounds like your synchros are worn, time for a new tranny or a rebuild!

I FORGOT TO MENTION:

When i EASE off the clutch petal it stays stuck 1/2 way sometimes. Also, usually double clutching DOESN"T help when syncros are bad.

And as stated above...I'm using redline now.

any other suggestions?

lol i didnt know what to expect when i saw the thread title, but after new fluid and replaceing slave and master cylinders and it still grinds it might be time for a new tranny.

but why is it butter-smooth after a double clutch? I dont get that...

bypass that little box. the one under the passenger side of the car by the slave cylinder. the "clutch dampener block" or whatever its called.

what exactly does the "clutch dampner block" do? What would be the point of bypassing it? thanks!

1. damper clutch vibration in pedal
2. makes the system 100x easier to bleed

hate to thread jack but no point making another thread for this. experiencing the same thing except my brand new clutch fluid is dark colored now and i have to pump the clutch at first start to get it into gear. and the pedal only comes up halfway also... so is that the damper box or is it time for a new master cylinder

so why on earth would i want to get rid of something that

1. dampens vibrations
2. makes the system EASIER to bleed?

what am i missing here?

You are missing replies typed in plain english

the magic box makes the clutch feel cushier

it also makes the system harder to bleed

if you remove it, clutch might be marginally firmer, but will be much much easier to properly bleed.

thanks.

So would it actually INCREASE HYDROLIC pressure to the slave cylinder or just make the clutch FEEL harder? (cause the 240 clutch is the hardest damn clutch i've ever felt next to classic fords)

If it actually improves performance..i'm all for it. BTW- what so hard about bleeding the clutch with the damper? I bled the box and slave in 5 min... whats so hard?

thanks guys.

theres no other excuse for why your tranny feels the way it does. if you have done everything else to it like bleed it and what not then it only leaves so many reasons to why it is acting the way it is. probably the syncros or your slave cylineder is taking a shit, but more likely the syncros
