mods pls move if this thread is not in the right section of the forum. thanks

i have a 1991 240sx with a ka24de. i have a spare ka24e engine with ecu from an 89 240sx. i would like to remove the ka24de and swap in the ka24e. would this be considered an illegal engine swap?

i'm aware that the BAR says engine swaps need to be "same year or newer".

i think ka24e's were produced and used till 1996, but on the nissan truck hardbody's though

then again, anothere statement from BAR, "no truck to passenger car swap"

so does anyone care to dispute this kind of swap.

i just want to know why you would do something like that?

I don't really see a point. Its alot of work to do. and you loose performance. It has been done, there is a guy running a kaE in his s14. It would probably be viewed as illegal in cali.

is your dohc blown? or just want to do something differant?

ummm are you in a group that mob the SOHC engine? cuz you can't find that many performance parts for it.... Not nearly as much as a DOHC. Stick with the dual it's better.

i'm not really looking into performance wise. i'm just planning ahead if i should keep the ka24e engine as a spare. and i know that this spare i have is in good running condition. it's a spare in case my current ka24de gives out in the future. sometimes it does get hard to find another ka24de and also not so good pricewise. i thought about putting ka24e 1st since it's free and i already have it. but if it's too much trouble(smog-wise) than it's worth i'll probably just rid of the ka24e early.

You would need the ECU and smog equipment from your year or newer.
