I'm looking for a car on megan coilovers on the lowest possible setting it can go WITHOUT hurting the coilovers. I heard if you put them all the way to the lowest, it will damage the coilovers. Is this true or was somone talking out of their ass when they told me this? Can you slam your car with Megans or no?

Sorry I know there are a million megan threads but I am trying to choose between Megan and Stance for my upcoming project. I know stance can go lower then Megan and stance is better quality, but I want to see if Megans can go as low as I need.

Please help me out guys, I did do a search and didn't find many pictures of cars with the person saying they had Megan's.

how can you even compare Megan to Stance?

yea its like comparing crap to gold.

Megans can get low, thats not problem. there basic dual adjust coilovers, any idiot can figure it out. if your not a performance individual (which is doesnt sound like you are), then go megans and get that super JDM look I know we all crave.....If you care about your car handeling good and proper linkage angles ect, go with a quality company and get a quality allignment/corner weighting. The lowest setting probably isnt going to give the best handeling results, but you already knew that.

If you are going to just be driving on the street and just want to say "I have coil-overs" get the megans. But for serious performance step up. You get what you pay for. Good Luck

I know he was. I had megans but never went that low. I was disapointed and sold them. I just wanted him to know what was up before he made a purchase.

homeboy misread some post about turning the dampening knobs to the lowest setting.

has nothing to do with ride height

I ordered a set of Megans a couple of days ago, and I'm planning on riding on the ground with them. If they don't go low enough, I'll take out the bottom two collars or something, because I'm a fanboy like that.

i ride megans down to the ground lol...get megans!! Best bang for the buck!

Stance is still expensive when compared to megans, apexi, or tein. I mean come on.....you can get a set of tein super drift for the price of stance. My megan track feels just like tein super drift.

oops i forgot to ask you what you are getting coilovers for...looks? Drift? or what?

For looks, cheapest way to look slam, megan streets, and they are soft enough daily. Camber plates in the front, 8/6 spring rate, you cant go wrong.

Something for drift, megan track, stiff as shit. Almost too stiff for daily. I said ALMOST haha. Im guessing its called track becuz they were meant for the track right? ;)

But if you have a few hundred bux to burn, go ahead and get the stance or silk road, or zeal, or whateverss....Most of the people who said that they run this or that...usually just say that to sound like they are the shit. If thats what you are going for, get ur Silk road or cusco or whatever...But if you are just looking for functionality, megan works. I admit, its prolly not the best, but hey..its CHEAP!! As a bonus, they even give you a warranty for one year!

no disrespect to other coilovers, of course.

so does anybody have pictures

I want them mostly for looks and ride height adjustability. I do care about my cars handleing, but I don't do any autocross or go to the track so I thought Megans will be enough for me as long as they go low enough, that is why I made this thread. I wanted to see pictures of how long megans can go because I have heard people complain that they don't go low enough.

so please, show me some pics :aw:

Far from lowest on megans. Still have some thread to go, and i havent removed any collars, which can be done to lower even more if you wish.

My Megans came in today, and I have a question about adjusting the damper.
The directions say to tighten the knob, and then turn it back to adjust the damper.
1-8 is for track use, 9-16 is for aggressive/mountain use, and 17-32 is for street use.
From the directions it seems that when it's turned back, it goes from 32 to 1, but from the drawing that comes with the directions, it looks like it adjusts from 1 to 32. For now I'll probably just adjust it 16 times and have it in the middle anyway, to see how it feels, but I'd still like to know which way is which once I'll start trying out different settings. Can anyone tell me?
Thanks for any help.

Full clockwise, to the right, 'tightening', is full stiff. 32 clicks back to the left, is full soft. 1 is full stiff, all the way to the right, 32 is full soft, 32 clicks to the left from 1. Don't go past 32 or you can loosen the adjustment mechanism and you'll be screwed. If you're unsure what setting you're on, go back to full stiff and go from there. You can't go past setting 1, but you can go past setting 32, which you DO NOT want to do.

01-16-2007, 04:23 PM
Thank you, that's very helpful.

Now that I think about it, it obviously makes sense that way. When it's tightened, it's more compressed, therefore stiffer, and when it's loosened, there's less compression.
Thanks again.

Heres a pic of my car with 205/50/15 and Megan streets. Still have a quarter of an inch to go in front and prolly around 1.5" in the back. Im gonna raise it back up when the weather clears...im scraping my lip/frame rail/ exhaust all over =(

~4N~

What width and offset are your wheels? I'm running 205/50/15's as well, on 15x7 +0 wheels, and I also have the Zenki lip, but on a Chuki bumper, so it will most likely sit on the ground.
By the way, what damper setting do most of you run?

01-16-2007, 10:56 PM
I got the sportmax 15x8 0 offset. My damper are set on the soft side. Im on 25 front 28 rear on the damper for daily driving right now...

You didn't specify you have track or street?

Why would anyone really want the Track's? They are just the street's with obnoxiously stiff spring rates. They are just gona bounce around alot unless you are on a PERFECT surface. What other brand has spring rates that crazy?

I'm used to it. And yes, I DD it. Car also has all arms replaced with pillowball adj. arms except the LCAs, and they're new with poly bushings and new ball joints. Poly bushings everywhere there isn't a pillowball/heim joint. NISMO Power Brace, Subframe spacers, and Whiteline rear sway. Car is pretty stiff and I love it. Eventually wanna upgrade to Stance, but the Megans are doing just fine for now. BTW, streets. Tracks are homo.

Thanks for the info. The setup you have sound so far as what im going to order for the newly aquired project s13 . The whitelines are 3 way adj right? What setting do you have yours and im guessing once again that you dont slide the car?

Sway on stiffest setting. Car is my DD. No drifting really. I drive the mountains locally white often though, mostly grip though. Actually planning on grip driving the car at HPDE's locally at VIR. May do a drift event here and there, but nothing major.

I just got my car today ( 97 SE auto :P ) and am probably going to get my megan streets sometime soon, so I need to know what else I have to purchase.

Im either getting the Megans or doing a 5spd swap 1st im not sure... both are definately in the near future tho.

The megan tracks are meant for the TRACK. meaning drift and autox.

I have tracks on my car. I go drifting...awesome stability.

However, the megan streets are more livable...you can drift with it too. Its better than regular strut and spring combo.
